Searching for ship manifest record - ancestor from Galicia, Austria
« on: Wednesday 28 May 25 08:20 BST (UK) »
I've been trying to locate a ship manifest record for one of my ancestors, Michael Borowski/Borovsky.

His 1916 declaration of intention that says he arrived in NYC on or about 18 Oct 1907: https://www.familysearch.org/en/memories/memory/205163629

His 1910 census says he arrived in 1907.  He didn't live past 1918.

His declaration of intent says he was on the CC Voltaire (with Preduck? Augusta crossed out), and that he departed Hamburg, Germany.

His village was Rydoduby, in Galicia, Austria, now Ukraine.  I suspect he was Polish (his baptism record was in a roman catholic register) - but his sisters baptism records were in greek catholic registers.  I believe it was tradition for girls to follow their mother's church?

I found the list of ships that arrived from Hamburg in Oct 1907, but none of them are a perfect match: https://stevemorse.org/cgi-bin/boat.php?series=&rollStart=&rollEnd=&volumeStart=&volumeEnd=&monthStart=10&dayStart=&yearStart=1907&monthEnd=10&dayEnd=&yearEnd=1907&boatkind=starts&boat=&offset=1&portkind=starts&port=hamburg&pageSize=50&database=all&local=yes&auth=

Any advice or tips appreciated.  Thanks!

There are:
Michal Brovowski age 20 arriving 18th October 1907 from Trieste, but the ship is Laura
Michael Borowski age 23 arriving 11 May 1907 from Hamburg, ship Arcadia
Michael Barowski  age 35 arriving 8 July 1907 from Bremen, ship Barbarossa

all of these records have more details, but since none of them fits…

Voltaire manifest includes 91 names, nothing even vaguely resembling Michael Barowski. Indeed there are very few Eastern Europeans, ~5 Russians.
