Finding a potential Hall ancestor. Help and advice required please.
« on: Tuesday 27 May 25 21:28 BST (UK) »
Been going through some old notes and records, having a general tidy up of loose ends. Attached is a copy screenshot of a reply by Annie65115 regarding a burial for my Great Grandfather John Hall in 1935.

Since then I have checked the other people mentioned. I have today checked with Gilroes ( who I have to say are very helpful and efficient with their replies.....so this is a public thank you to them  :) ), Gilroes have informed me that the grave where my Great Grandfather John Hall formerly of Buckminster Road was buried in 1935 was purchased part used. This being the case I can discount the George Weston and Ernest Frederick Wright mentioned in the Annie65115 reply as ancestors. The John William Hall who died aged 61 also of Buckminster Road was the son of my Grandfather John Hall. I have all of John William Hall`s records to include a copy of his will.

That leaves Mary Eliza Hall who died also in 1935 aged 66 formerly of 9 Richard Street. I am struggling to find out who she was. I did try FreeBMD by putting Hall in the surname box, Mary Eliza in the Spouse first name(s) box, then ticking marriages before selecting Leicestershire to see if any names cropped up that I recognise, unfortunately there were way too many results returned to even begin trying to rule candidates in or out.

Does anyone have a mention of Mary Eliza Hall in their tree or have access to information or records that could help me find out whether she is related?

Many thanks in anticipation for all offers of help and assistance.

Steve  ;)

Have you downloaded a digital copy of her death cert to establish who reported her death & their relationship to her?  Cost is £3

HALL, MARY  ELIZA      66
GRO Reference: 1935  M Quarter in LEICESTER  Volume 07A  Page 227

Census Information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

There is a newspaper report of her death, unfortunately I don't have access.

Here is the Newspaper mention. Nothing noting any family.
Research mainly on Leicestershire and Cambridgeshire/Norfolk/Suffolk.

I had considered that but I have purchased several digital certificates recently, two of which were not related family members, I was hoping there was another way to find out who Mary Eliza Hall was before going down that route.

Many thanks for your reply maddys52, looks like Taylor94 has obliged  ;)

Many thanks Alan for your reply and the details you supply  ;)

I did carry out a cursory look on the 1921 Census before posting without any success, your reply explains why if she did not marry until 1934. I also checked the Gov UK website for a possible mention in the Wills or Probate again without success.

Now off to try and find out who the John Hall is and if he is related.

Good luck!

I realise that Mary Eliza Weston isn't your primary interest, but here are some hints in case you need to find/follow her:
Mary Eliza Wright married George Weston 1888
son Frederick born 1888
family are in 1891 and 1901 censuses
George Weston d 1910
ME and F in 1911 census with lodgers including F's future wife
M E Weston in 1921 at 109 Syston Street with one lodger (not John Hall!)
Boyd, Dove, Blakey, Burdon

Thankyou very much Alan for your latest reply and the extra hints, certainly very helpful and much needed  ;)

As with my Great Grandfather named John Hall it took absolutely ages to finally track down a burial especially being a reasonably common name. I`ll gratefully accept your Good Luck wish........think I`ll be needing it.
