1851 census
« on: Sunday 25 May 25 17:32 BST (UK) »
Hi all, I am in need of some assistance with my ancestors middle name. On the 1851 census she is listed as Elizth Hanl Goodman (At least thats what it says, its not really that legible). I know her name was Elizabeth Goodman but I've no idea what the Hanl is. Any Ideas??
Thanks
Al

Please can you tell us where she is to be found so we too can look at the record?

If you aren't sure how to give a Piece/ Folio/page ref, can you give a link to the record you are looking at?

I think it's Han[na]h

The capital letter is exactly the same as that in the word 'Head' written in the relationship column.

Thanks EDIT. OOPS!
Apologies

Thanks ROSIE

I agree with JenB it looks like Han.h, the census gives her birthplace as Braunston

Her maiden name (on checking the children's births on the GRO site) was Smallbones

The marriage  gives her Dad's name  as Samuel
and there is a baptism in Mar 1828 Braunston for an Elizabeth Ann Smallbone, parents Samuel & Susannah
and a burial in 1908 Staverton for Elizabeth Ann Goodman aged 82

Ann/ Hanna/Anna are often interchangeable on records

Thank you, that makes sense, on closer inspection it could well be a small h on the end of the name. Thanks again for your help, its saved me a few headaches  :D :D
