Quite frankly, if the archive specifies that research requests must nominate the exact record sets to be searched, you would be better off employing an independent researcher. A professional who regularly visits the archive and is familiar with its resources will be able to look at a range of appropriate records on a single research visit. The hourly rate would probably be similar.

Have a look at the AGRA Directory for someone who works in Tyne & Wear?
