Enlistment Date Please ?
« on: Friday 23 May 25 20:38 BST (UK) »
Pte 1964 William Newall of 1/5th King's Liverpool went to France 21 February 1915

His Death became assumed 08 August 1916 but that was accepted after 1917 because he was still missing and as a Territorial he was Renumbered as 200343 in 1917  when they Renumbered their Territorial Battalion

If his War Gratuity was Calculated for Payment as £8 :10s to 8 August 1916

Can Someone Advise me when he Approximately Enlisted then ?

As enlistment age was 18yrs he should only have enlisted on or after 3.7.1916 so clearly lied about his age if he went to France in 1915.

Presume there is no Fold 3 entry?

Was there any special procedure by the military when a soldier died & was then found to have been underage when they enlisted?

Find My Past have two medical records for him under service number 1964 ----

4th Stationary Hospital, St Omer -- declared that he was 19 years of age and had been in the Army for 1 full year. Date of admission not recorded but he was discharged to duty on 23/7/1915. He had been admitted for a Carbuncle.

2nd General Hospital, Le Havre -- declared that he was in '2 Company', age 17 years, had been in the army or 1 full year and 'in the field' for 9 months. He was admitted on the 8/10/1915 and discharged to duty on the 14/11/1915. He had been admitted with a 'Whitlow, thumb' -- it must have been badly infected as he was in hospital for 38 days.

War Gratuity = £5 for year 1 & 10s. for every month thereafter.
So 1 year 4 months giving an attestation of March 1915 which
doesn't gel with the other info given he gave.
Taking into account his 3 months training the latest he could have
joined would be Oct. 1914.
