Looking at the 5/Btn. service numbers 1820 joined March 1914
& 1954 joined Aug. 1914 so quite a good recruitment with your
man being just 10 above the last entry so must have joined pretty
much after the outbreak of war.

War Gratuity = £5 for year 1 & 10s. for every month thereafter.
So 1 year 4 months giving an attestation of March 1915 which
doesn't gel with the other info given he gave.
Taking into account his 3 months training the latest he could have
joined would be Oct. 1914.

Sorry bad maths.
1 years & 7 months which gives a date of Dec. 1914/Jan. 1915 which still
doesn't quite match a Feb. 21st. embarkation which is stated on his MIC.

I thought possibly 19 months to those enlistment dates
But Le Havre Hospital Record 8 October 1915 that AllanUK found states his Service had been 1 Year

Just found that the Red Cross created a POW Card for him because he was missing.

There were exemptions as to when Gratuity started so maybe he joined in Oct. 1914
but didn't qualify until Dec./Jan. 1915.
