Sarah Ogden - who was she?
« on: Friday 23 May 25 10:59 BST (UK) »
I think I am going round in circles - need another brain!!!
===================
My g4-grandfather's grave (on Findagrave.com) in Weston, near Spalding, has the following headstone inscription:

"William Cordley died 8 Feb 1809 aged 49 years
Also Sarah Ogden his relict died 30 April 1824 aged 79 years"

ie William born abt 1759 and Sarah b abt 1745  (although the last digit of 1824 is indistinct)

I have a marriage of William Cordley to Sarah Barns

Place    Sutton St Edmund  -  Parish Register
Marriage date   13 Aug 1781
Groom forename   William
Groom surname   CORDLY
Groom parish   Weston
Bride forename   Sarah
Bride surname   BARNS
Bride parish   Sutton St Edmunds

and then (after his death in 1809) his Admon papers names Sarah as his widow and executor.

There is a marriage of Sarah Cordley to Christopher Ogden for Sep 1824

Place    Weston St Mary  -  Parish Register
Marriage date   01 Sep 1824
Groom forename   Christopher
Groom surname   OGDEN
Groom parish   Pinchbeck
Groom condition   Widower
Bride forename   Sarah
Bride surname   CORDLEY
Bride condition   Widow

But this marriage is after the death date for Sarah Ogden on the gravestone.

On FreeReg there is a burial for a Sarah Ogden on 5th May 1841 in Weston St Marys with age 79 (ie b 1762);  but I cannot find an entry in the GRO index for a death relating to her.

I think I must be muddling up two Sarah's , but  I have gone back and checked - without success.

If anyone has some time to examine this and point out where I have gone wrong I would be so grateful.

Pam

Yes, and the death cert says she is the widow of Christopher Ogden. Died 30 April 1841.

So do I assume that the gravestone is WRONG?

"Sarah Ogden his relict died 30 April 1824 aged 79 years"

How can that happen???   Certainly makes sense.

Thanks

That could be a badly cut 41.
The 1 at end is same as 1 of at start of both years 1809 and 1841.

It's wonderful what  other eyes can see,  thank you so much, such a simple solution.  And, having found her death certificate I see that her grandson was with her when she died.  Peace.
