Hit and killed by a train 1915 Hawes area
« on: Thursday 22 May 25 10:53 BST (UK) »
Good morning

I am hoping someone might be able to help me.  This week I have been told that my wifes great great grandfather Jeffrey Iveson (b 1869) was hit and killed by a train in the Hawes area in 1915, his occupation was a railway platelayer.

I would like to know if the accident did actually happen and if so, any further details.  I have contacted Hawes Library, waiting a reply

Any help, pointers and information would be very much appreciated

Kind regards

Simon

I can't see any newspaper reports about this, though there are several reports of other platelayers having been killed by trains in 1915.

I couldn't either, I'm wondering if the accident did happen.

Thanks for looking

1911 Jeffrey was living in Hawes, 1921 his widowed wife was in Hawes, so he probably died in the Sedburgh Registration District.  I will get a digital copy of his death certificate

Thank you for your replay

A catastrophic impact death could be described as blandly as by 'blunt trauma'.

There is a Railway Archive that can be searched for incidents, however it is not complete

https://www.railwaysarchive.co.uk/eventlisting.php

There's another database for downloading at the bottom of this web page

https://www.railwayaccidents.port.ac.uk/the-accidents/

I can't see anything for a Jeffrey Iveson.

Many thanks

I had searched the Railway Archive, I didn't know about the Railway Accidents site, which I'm looking forward to having a good look
