Looking for help on ages in Norfolk marriage license bond
« on: Sunday 18 May 25 01:08 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone

I'm looking for help with the age of the groom in the attached excerpt from a 1748 marriage license bond.

Thanks.

Rather difficult.
Could be "Thomas Taylor singleman aged abt 29 yrs"

I think the bottom part of the 2 has looped up high to join the top part.
Milligan - Jardine – Glencross – Dinwoodie - Brown: (Dumfriesshire & Kirkcudbrightshire)
Clark – Faulds – Cuthbertson – Bryson – Wilson: (Ayrshire & Renfrewshire)
Neale – Cater – Kinder - Harrison: (Warwickshire & Queensland)
Roberts - Spry: (Cornwall, Middlesex & Queensland)
Munster: (Schleswig-Holstein & Queensland) and Plate: (Braunschweig, Neubruck & Queensland & New York)

I think I'd agree Neale, although it's pretty tricky to make out.
You can see the last bit of it is a fancy rendering of 'years', as in the age of the bride - '28 years'.
The second number in the groom's age has to be a very curly '9', and I can't see the first digit being any other number other than a '2' really.
Perhaps mongrel could try looking as aged '39' as well in case it's a very strange '3' on its side.

Cochran, Nicol, Paton, Bruce:Scotland. Bertolle:London
Bainbridge, Christman, Jeffs: Staffs

I agree with ages;

Marriage Bond;
Groom's parish: St Michael Coslany, Norwich.
Bride's parish: Wymondham.
Parish of intended marriage: Wymondham or Heigham [St Bartholomew, Heigham, for registers see St Barnabas with St Bartholomew, Heigham] or St Michael Coslany, Norwich.

Seem to have bapt most of the children St Margaret, Norwich (FreeREG)
Including Robert Booty Taylor 1751 buried 1751

As Thomas/Ann name children Elizabeth and Robert Booty Taylor these might be Ann Parents Burials;
Virgin Mary and St Thomas a Becket, Wymondham
ROBERT Booty 12 Jun 1750, note; Brought From London
ELIZABETH Booty 2 Jun 1763 Widow

Possible marriage for that couple :-
MARRIAGE - 4 Jan 1723/24 at Norwich, St Mary in the Marsh.
Elizabeth KETT of Wymondham to Robert BOOTY of Welsingham. (Walsingham?)

Thanks to everyone for their help.  I got hold of Elizabeth Booty's will from the Norfolk Record Office and it confirmed that she was the mother of Ann wife of Thomas Taylor.  So all very helpful!
