Seeking Death cert or obituary for Thomas DAVIS
« on: Friday 16 May 25 16:36 BST (UK) »
Hi all!!  :)
I'm seeking help to find a death certificate, or cause of death, or an obituary, for a Thomas Davis (Davies) who died in Blayney NSW Australia, 11th March 1867. Aged 62. (He was born 1805 St Austell, Cornwall).
Father: Thomas Davis, Mother: Mary ne Vivian
His gravestone is in the Methodist portion of the Blayney cemetery.

I have searched NSW Births deaths and marriages, but am unable to locate this Thomas Davis’s death cert. I have tried various combinations of spellings on BDM, to no avail.

I have searched TROVE and only found probate dates. (I have purchased the correct probate package, but there was no Death cert or indication to how he died. His will states (on the 8th March 1867) that he was in prospect of death.

Headstone inscription reads...
TO
THE MEMORY OF
THOMAS DAVIS
WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE
11th DAY OF MARCH A.D. 1867
AGED 62 YEARS.
Blessed is the man that
Trusteth in the Lord and who’s
Hope the Lord is. JEREMIAH XV11 V11
*
ALSO OF
CHARLOTTE DAVIS,
WHO DEPARTED THIS LIFE DEC 5TH 1881
AGED 83 YEARS

I’m desperately needing help on this one!!
Thankyou in advance

As he was terminally ill three days before his death it would seem unlikely that there would have been an inquest.

The Will gives a name of a 'parish' in Blayney but I cant make out the first letter.

A phone call or letter to the NSW BMDs may help find the death certificate.

Thankyou Judy, yes, I did send an email to BDM, the lady who received my email, said she couldn't find one. Seems strange that there would be no death cert, as surely a death cert needs to be sighted for a will/probate to go through. I can only think, something  must be incorrect/ ie: spelling, or how the original document was catalogued.  That is why , if we could find an obituary... maybe it could help !! :)  :)

Have you tried contacting a local history group for Blayney.. they may be able to help. I couldn't find any parish records that were relevant but they may have some.

Hi AAHume, yes, I have tried, they don't have much information on him other than what I have shared with them!! I have tried the Uniting church archives also to no avail. I am wondering if anyone has access to papers of the time that may have an obituary. I tried TROVE , but also can't seem to find anything other than his probate notice.
