Rumney Hesket-in-the-Forest, Braithwaite or Itonfield

Hi All,
Is there anyone out there researching Rumney's (or other related families,) of Hesket-in-the-Forest, Low Hesket, Braithwiate or Itonfield? These places are very close together.
My ancestors lived there around 1550 - 1700.

The Hesket BT's Baptisms & Marriages are from 1665 & are on Family Search.

But I need Burials which aren't on FS.
Neither are the actual Parish Records which are from 1662. These are on microfiche at the Carlisle Archives.
I am unable to get there!!

I have different Wills from around that area which are other than Rumneys for the same period.

Any help or ideas gratefully received. Fingers crossed

Not my family but I did a bit of digging.
There is  a transcript of burials for Hesket in the Forest on FindMyPast.
Had a go 1600 -1800 and no Rumneys.
The Rumneys on there are for Raughton Head

John Rumney s of John 1723
Thomas Rumney 28.5.1753
Hannah d of Jos  30.6.1798
John s of Jo. 24.9.1799
John 13.1.1800
Thomas s of Jo 15.4.1792

There seems to be two couples at Raughton Head -John and Anne and Jo. and Elizabeth.

Does that save you a journey?
If not give me a couple of names and I'll try and track them down.

The Rumneys from Raughton Head are not the ones I am after. I have  Wills for some of them but can't  find a link at the moment.

I am looking for the ancestors or siblings of Edmond Rumney c1632 who married Margaret Kilner or Rilner in Hesket-in-the-Forest on 20 Apr 1663. Catherine their daughter & my 5x Gt Grandmother was baptised 21 Jun 1663.

I was hoping that there would be more about the family in the Hesket Parish Records rather than the BT's. Also I was hoping for the burials as these are not on any web site.

I have wills which appear to point to Edmonds father to be Edmond Snr. And then his father appears to be a John who left a will in 1604. They also lived at Braithwaite and Itonfield which is just around the Hesket Area.

So really I think the original Hesket Parish Records may be the answer or the burials in the BT's. Unfortunately neither are accessible on-line.

P.S. On Ancestry most people have Catherine Rumney as the daughter of John Rumney born in Penrith 1656. This I believe is wrong as 
1) Catherine would have been 48 when her last child was baptised - not impossible but not likely.
2) Nor was the name Frances, her presumed mother, used by her or her children - unusual!
3) No one checked the OPR's for a Catherine born in Hesket of the right age so just used the Penrith one
4) Why, if born in Penrith, go to Hesket to get married.

Yes I see what you mean .They are just not there.
I've tried various sites and got nowhere.
However Familysearch does say they have microfilmed the originals and are available at one of their centres.

It might not hurt to phone up your nearest Familysearch centre and ask a few questions.It's only a phonecall and they can only say no.

FreeReg has 163 Rumney burials, for those dates, in:

Dalston St Michael
Greystoke St Andrew
Watermillock All Saints
Penrith St Andrew
Matterdale End

Good idea to try & phone the nearest FamilySearch Office and have a word with them. (Have just sent them an email as no number listed.)

Have looked at the FreeReg site but non listed from the Hesket area

Have come across this Government Site listing Protestation Returns - have the originals and a transcript of names which is useful

Does anyone know of any other websites listing people  around this time?

Wonder if there are any Manor records from there for around this time? Any ideas?
 
In the meantime If anyone is going to the Carlisle Archives and has a spare bit of time then would appreciate any photos from the Hesket OPR's or BT's. Willing to pay for the use of camera etc.

It does look as though there are Manorial Records for Hesket

But not much help as they are also at Carlisle Archives.

There is also the Hearth Tax records 1662-1682

Quite expensive to buy but perhaps an inter Library loan?

Or  Familysearch has another book Hearth Tax 1674 available at the following

Not sure where you live so how close they would be to you.

And finally you could download the same from Parish Chest for £4 which when you factor in travelling time etc seems quite reasonable.

Internet Archive says they have it for free but I struggled to get the book up on the screen.

There is also the Window Tax of 1777 also available from Parish Chest or Waterstones are selling it in a printed copy for South Westmorland.(Not sure if it includes Hesket in the South and there is a North Westmorland volume.).

If it was me I'd go for the downloads but then I have no patience.
