I’m trying to find out what became of Jane Dixon (nee Wardrobe) who was the widow of Charles Dixon.
Recently I got a hold of her Trinity Street Petition, which says that Charles was a mariner working on the ship Ranger to captain Thomas Atkinson. He drowned on 31 Aug 1816.
The records attached show that Jane & Charles married in Jun 1811 and had three children; George (1811), Thomas (1815), Charles (1817-1887). At the time of petition, Jane was 31 (b. 1788) and lived at Fish Market in North Shields, but her baptism records were not attached as “she cannot obtain her baptism due to losing her parents in infancy”.
George’s baptism in 1812 mentions her as the daughter of Thomas Wardrobe, native of All Saints.
I think Jane might’ve had an illegitimate daughter, Jane, bap 1809 at Haydon Bridge who then died at Gateshead in 1811.
Any help is appreciated
