Family Tree Maker 2024 finally released
« on: Sunday 11 May 25 07:35 BST (UK) »
For those interested or have pre-ordered FTM 2024, it has officially been released today.

If you haven't received an email regarding it, details on how to obtain your copy can be found here: https://support.mackiev.com/254333-How-to-Pick-Up-your-Copy-of-FTM-2024.

Additional FAQ can be found here: https://support.mackiev.com/963849-FTM-2024-FAQ.

This Second FAQ link also provides a link where you can still upgrade to 2024 with a discount.

Whilst it has released, I am unsure as to whether it is possible to purchase FTM2024 standalone as the above details only refer to upgrading from 2019. There store page, at least for me, still is 2019.

Hi, are you sure about this? I got something a bit similar a little while ago. If you go to the Mackiev main site there is no mention of 2024 at all.
I think support.mackiev is a scam site.

Those links are from the Mackiev main site, just their support section. (go to main site, then click family tree maker and then support in green bar and it is all in there so definitely from their main site).

As to whether this is true, yes, all installed on my PC.

Yep, it's finally here. Received an email 3 hours ago and downloaded the new version. Paid for it on 12 February last year.

Not a lot in the new version that to me is worth it. Main reason for my buying the new one was that I'd found a problem with merging of sources that I notified them of over 2 years ago. After some back and forth they acknowledged there was a bug, but--to cut a long story short--it wasn't going to be fixed in the old version but it would be addressed in the "coming shortly" new version. I'm happy to report now that after 2 years and 3 months the bug is fixed.

Problems can happen in new developments, sometimes greatly delaying things, and most FTM users would be aware that the company operates out of Ukraine--difficult indeed. But good, honest communication is vital. In this Mackiev gets a fail.

I, for one, won't be caught again.

In the blurb from Software Mackiev about FTM2024 I didn't see anything in the new features that interested me so I didn't bother signing up for it. But one thing they did say that caught my attention was that there were lots more new features 'under the hood'. One thing that has irritated me for a long time is that the roll back feature doesn't allow you to specify how far you can roll back. It's fixed at 1000 changes which is far too big to be useful.

Have they implemented a more flexible roll back yet?

Thanks

Martin

Does anyone know whether this new version solves the problem where syncing with Ancestry is prevented if Ancestry's two-factor authentication is enabled?

Hi, I would hope so.
There is however a work around for the issue.
Go to Ancestry and turn off 2FA
Log in to Ancestry in FTM as usual.
Go back to Ancestry and turn 2FA back on again.
As long as you leave FTM logged in you can sync quite happily.

I would urge caution.

Personally I do not want to be an Extended Beta tester, which can happen on newly released or updated software.

I prefer to wait a while for it to be debugged.
