Elsie and Daisy Chesters
« on: Saturday 10 May 25 19:51 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I’m looking for any details possible – 1901 Census and after/before - of two Chesters sisters – Elsie and Daisy (and their parents) who lived in later years in South Crofts, Nantwich.

Can anyone help?

Thank you.

In the Crewe Chronicle of 10th December 1938, Miss Daisy Chesters is recorded as an attendee at All Saints' Cemetery, Nantwich for the funeral of Mrs Harry Hobson. The report says that at the funeral "members of the staff of Messrs. Stretch and Harlock, in whose service, before her marriage, Mrs Hobson was chief of the dressmaking department, acted as bearers."

In 1921 both Daisy and Elsie are tailoresses with Moir, tailor, Hospital Street, Nantwich.

A newspaper item on the death of Mr Wm. Moir, tailor of Hospital Street, in 1925, notes that before he started his own business he was the manager in the tailoring department of Messrs Stretch and Harlock. Looking at various newspaper items it seems that Stretch and Harlock were clothiers and drapers.

In 1939 Daisy is an upholstress.

Thank you SO much.

They were basically my childminders, and stayed precious to me throughout. Daisy lived long enough to see my first daughter in 1985. Elsie died before.

And yes, Daisy (I grew up calling them Big Miss Chesters and Little Miss Chesters) worked occasionally at Stretch and Harlock's in the town.

I know they had a relative in Whitchurch, because a boy called Christopher - same age as me - also used to visit ...

Big Miss Chesters (Daisy) died at her relative's house in Whitchurch.

In the pre-WW2 days, were they living at number 46 or 47 South Crofts?

Thank you again !!

Daisy Chesters
1921 46 South Crofts
1939 46 South Crofts

Violet (Chesters) Bramall
1921 68 North Croft

After her marriage Violet lived near her family before the move to Whitchurch. For the benefit of those, who like me, are not familiar with Nantwich, here is a mid century OS map with house numbers shown:
