On the '51 Census the 4 youngest children on the '41 Census (Thomas, Henry, Charles, Anne) are listed as Anne's children - she is a widow. She gives her age as 65 and Anne is 13 - mmmm?.

Needless to say - Ann senior's age in 1851 doesn't correspond with her age in 1841.

If it's the correct John Doidge he died in 1844 aged 56 - so approx birth year of 1788.

Both this husband and wife were quite mature when having their younger children. If Ann senior's age is correct in 1841 (ie 51) - she would have been about 47 or 48 when giving birth to Ann junior - so not impossible I suppose.

I'm making things up now but there is a possibility that Ann (junior) - was the illegitimate daughter of one of the older daughters and John and Ann (senior) took her on as theirs.

However we should never assume should we!

I'd considered that angle but the 1836 baptism identifies her parents- hard to get that past the Minister?

I know - I was desperately clutching at straws! Thought the parents may have taken the baby to the Church pretending she was theirs -- but we should never make things up like this! I do know that and am being naughty!
