On an 1897 map, the burial ground is marked as disused.

Perhaps burials had already ceased by the time the people you are looking for passed away. but the  chapel still remained open for worship.
Hitchin cemetery opened in 1857

Thank you Lizzie :) The burials I'm seeking are in 1860 and 1875. I'm failing miserably to find them in Hitchin cemetery. Appreciate the suggestion, though!

This shows the Congregational Chapel on Queen Street - churchyard disused. There was a Methodict Chapel on Brand Street which was close to Back Street (originally linked High Street and Bancroft).

Is it the Queen St chapel records you are after?

Yes, the Congregational chapel records :) Thank you.

If they were not buried in the chapel grounds you would expect they were buried in the non-conformist section of St John's Road cemetery which opened in the late 1850s.

The Congregational records Queen Street? Why did your opening post identify "Back Street"? What is the source of your opening post referring to "Back Street"?
