Hi,
Is anyone going to the National Archives at Kew and could look up ( and photograph ) a specific item in the original State Papers (not the printed ones) ?
The manuscript reference below covers a missive from the Consul in Lisbon, Portugal Thomas Maynard which, whilst probably moaning as he usually does, includes a list of all Chaplains to serve up to that date (1656 - 1689 ). Usually his letters are not overly long but this one is of the utmost importance to me as I am compiling material to write a new biography of all Anglican Chaplains who have served in Lisbon. Although I visited London and the NA in March, I will not return to England for several years now ( I live in Portugal ). If anyone can help I would be very grateful.
Many thanks
John

Description:
Folio 371: Consul Maynard to Earl of Shrewsbury. Denies that he ever was a Roman Catholic, as is slanderously reported, and cites all the Protestant chaplains who have been in Portugal since 1656, who can testify in his favour. He has never heard mass in his life, though he has lived about 50 years in Portugal and three in France.
