Good morning folks

Hope everyone had a good weekend, it has turned quite chilly after some very nice days, only managed 1 session of sitting in the garden and now it has changed .

I have been rather remiss about the diary over the last couple of weeks,  been preoccupied  with various things.

Viktoria  what a pity your scooter saga is still ongoing , taken far to long to sort out, they really  ought to get their act together far to much money  tied up in it, hope it gets sorted out soon

Not a lot going on locally for VE   day, the church isn't doing anything either.

Take care everyone, have a good week

LM.

Forgot it was Monday, all these bank holidays seem like Sunday. And another one at the end of the month.

Chilly here too LM, North Easterly wind the last few days. Forecast much warmer by the end of the week.

Sunny but a bit chilly here in Devon.  Things are growing rapidly in the garden and OH has lots of trays of veg seedlings scattered around the place which have to be brought inside at nights in case of low temperatures.  It looks as though we shall have a good crop of strawberries this year - the plants are covered in flowers.

Today our village is celebrating with an afternoon tea on the green (marquees in case of showers).   On Thursday 8th, the real day of celebrations, there will more serious matters arranged by the church and we shall gather round the war memorial, bringing tealights in jam jars and singing "I vow to thee, my country", remembering those who didn't come back (including my uncle, lost somewhere near Arnhem, but sadly never found).

Forecast yesterday was for clouds and 12C max.
Our (concrete) front garden is quite sheltered, so a flatmate and I were sunbathing in 20C!

Very quiet today - did a Tesco run just after 8:00. Very few people shopping.

Got supplies for just a few days, as I am in hospital Wednesday (Day procedure).

Much to my amazement the village where my church is has no celebrations at all, we have a beacon in the village but that isn't even being lit.

After our church service on Thursday  VE day the local undertaker is coming to give a talk, what a day to choose.?, me, well no doubt I will  stay to to back up the priest but I prefer to be at home watching any celebrations,  I can remember 1945 going in our local church Hall, St Jude's  Lancefield St for a VE  Day party

Take care everyone

I'm old enough to remember details about life during the war, but curiously don't remember anything at all about the celebrations at the end of it.  I was just glad that my father would be coming home, though I had hardly ever seen him during the war and had to get to know him all over again.

As far as I am aware, none of my family fought in WW2.  However, my father did his "bit" helping to build Spitfires, which explains why I was born in Hoole (which makes me a genuine "Hooligan) and not in rural mid Cheshire.

My Father was still in Italy in the RAF on VE Day and his diary entry simply said ‘ VE day’ . I saw an RAF chap on the news yesterday and he said he was in Italy too that day and that his CO came along to all the men and said it’s VE Day, go away and come back tomorrow morning 8.30 am. So they got a day off. No idea if my Father did or not as he never said.
Very chilly here so have got the central heating back on.
