The 1921 Census sheet before Ernest  and Margaret Turner at "Woodside, Highgate" carries the address "102 Highgate". The sheet after their record carries the address "Woodside, 104 Highgate".

I tried to order a digital birth record of Alice Edge (and KGarrad, I know your info is correct, because I had already found the same), but it returned ‘No Matching Results Found’. Bizarre.

On the GRO site, search the Birth Indexes, and click the button next to the relevant entry.
3 options appear (in blue): Certificate, PDF, Digital Image

I just entered 1889 as the year, and then Edge as Surname, Alice as Forename, and Female as Sex.
5 entries appeared, including your Alice.

I also took a walk on Streetview and a flight on Google Earth.

Hello!

I am very interested in the Nantwich Chronicle report of her death, but I couldn’t find the article. I had visited Auntie Alice in Pratchett’s Row with my mother a couple of times. I remember her being bedridden, and hers was the first funeral I ever went to.

It is interesting that she made a will, and that Vera Farrington was the beneficiary. (Was there any mention of the paintings? They went to her sister, Jane – my grandmother.) I also remember my parents being friendly with a Farrington family in South Crofts, Nantwich.

One of the Farringtons – I think his name was Robert – used to take me and his nephew (I believe), Martin, to football matches at Crewe Alexandra. This would be around 1968.

I am also intrigued to learn that Alice – who never married – had a child by Herbert Illingsworth when she was 20/21. Did Robert Harold survive? Did Alice bring him up? I notice he didn’t travel to Australia with his father …

Here is a link to the article about the funeral of Alice Edge. It is  the first article and is titled "Funeral of Miss A Edge". You would need to register  with the British Newspaper Archive to read it in full.

( I found it by searching for Alice Edge and then using the filters to narrow the search down to 13 Jan 1966).

One of the trees seems to be by a descendant of Robert Harold Edge.

However, it doesn't have any details about Alice, except for her approximate birth and the 1891-1911 censuses.

It sounds as though Alice may have been a supposed ancestor.

As mentioned by maddys52, his baptism gives his mother as Sarah Edge.

In 1921, Robert was visiting a George Hewitt in Bunbury and stated that his father was dead.

'In 1921, Robert was visiting a George Hewitt in Bunbury and stated that his father was dead.'

A really interesting comment. Where was this from?

It was the 1921 census.

In 1911, the probable Sarah was with her parents, Thomas and Mary, in Bunbury.

Electoral Registers

In 1929 she is with Benjamin at 34 Heaton Grove

Thanks HT, I had been trying to find the house number for Roselea. Here is the 1958/1971 large scale map showing the location.

AB - re. the map - how did the postman manage his route? The house numbers don't conform in any way to the natural flow of things. Reminds me of being on the post as a student many years ago (pre postcodes) and the sorter back at the office had it in "delivery" order rather than in house no. order.
