Please can anyone help me with something new
« on: Saturday 03 May 25 20:48 BST (UK) »
Hello again everyone.
I'm not sure what part of the forum to ask for help with.
As everyone knows that I have been looking for my great grandfather Samuel Benjamin Cooper.
Well recently I've had a few comments on Facebook group about a post I did on angel meadow manchester slums
I. Wasn't expecting anything about what im
About to ask.
My brother is one of people who commented on my pictures.
It was only then I found out according to him. We have ancestors connected to angel meadow manchester slums.
So I asked him who they were.
He said the hole family died and he told me who 2 of them were.
Samuel Cooper and Hannah. He didn't say what Hannahs maiden name is.
But a very kind lady who has been helping me over the years. Found me some cencus. One was the 1851 census and the 1861 census.
On both of them Hannahs names are different. 1961 census says Anna and she's a widow. 1851 she's Hannah.
Hannah is now Hannah Pearson born in 1820. Samuel Cooper is born 1818.
So what I did was tell my brother that Hannah is called Hannah Pearson. He said its wrong it's Hannah Bentley.

So I asked him again about what happened to our ancestors. Apparently Hannah and Samuel had a few children one is called John. According to my brother John is my great grandfather Samuel Benjamin Coopers uncle.

But he still hasn't told me anything else about my ancestors. All he has said is. He's not going through it again. And I'm to get my helpers as he's doing his own research.
To be honest I don't think any of what he's told me is true. That's why he won't tell me anything.
Apparently there address was 4 walkers croft. But I've recently been told it's 4 walkers court Manchester. I think it's classed as Angel meadow.
For the last few days I've been trying to find out about my ancestors. Who they were and what happened to them. Did they all die at once or separately. By the sounds of the 1861 census Hannah /Anna survived. But I don't know anything else.
My brother just refuses to help me on what he says he knows. He won't even answer any comments I make.

So I thought I would ask the ones who have been very helpful to me over the past few years.
I. Just hope I can find out.
It's driving me daft not being able to get any answers from my brother.
Please can anyone help me with this.
I really appreciate any help.
Thank you all again for your help and your time.
Kind regards
Dorothy

We can certainly try and help you but need to work carefully backwards from information you know is correct to start with.

Who was your grandfather Cooper? whose father was Samuel please and where and when was he born?

Dorothy:  Yes, I think we have already agreed that the Samuel Cooper and Hannah Pearson was incorrect - wrong Samuel (Shopkeeper) - his father given as James Cooper, (Bricklayer).  AND you have details of the Samuel Cooper (Coal Miner) and Hannah Bentley marriage - his father given as Thomas Cooper (Labourer).

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.

Hello, there certainly was a Walkers  Croft in that area.
It was much older than the streets we know as the slums of Angel Meadow built by the mill owners to house the workers in the mills that were built
there .They were slums from the very start, not made by the people housed there .
My mother’s older sister Mary, married a man named Cooper.
Her maiden name was Pomphrey , in about 1910.
He was a racing cyclist at Fallowfield race track.

The family moved about such a lot and Mary and family eventually went to Bermuda where her husband was Inspector of the waterworks I think .
I will look up the marriage because my mother always called her sister’s husband Cedric I seem to remember that was not correct.
Best of luck in your research.
Viktoria.
P.S. his name was Albert Cooper .

I'm really confused now. And mixed up.
My great grandfathers name is Samuel Benjamin Cooper. He was born around 1870 - 71. His father's name was John if I remember correctly. I think they are from Manchester.. My great grandparents are Samuel Benjamin Cooper and isabella Cooper formerly povey.

This part I'm confused about and mixed up with.
At 1st I was told via Facebook. From a family member  who won't help with with anything he claims to know.
He originally told me that the ancestors we have the whole family died  and I asked him who they were. All he's given me is Samuel Cooper and Hannah. He hasn't told me at the beginning Hannahs maiden name. So I had to ask for help from a really kind lady  who I think is on this group.

My brother later on told me after I said I know Hannahs surname. He said I was wrong. It's not Pearson it's Bentley.

So now I'm really confused.
Was Hannah /Anna called Bentley or Pearson. I only know she was born 1820 /21    I don't know anything else about her.

I just want to know who they all were and what happened to the whole family.

Sometimes I really get mixed up with everything. And I forget.  Which makes it difficult for me to understand things.
This is one of the reasons my brother said hes not going through it over again with me. And he's refusing to tell me what he's found out. He knows I'm trying to find out the same thing as he is.
To be honest I think he's being cruel like he's always has been.

Please can anyone help me

It looks like BumbleB has helped you before, looking at the second reply above, and confirmed Hannah Bentley is correct and you have details of the marriage.

Have you got access to be able to look up census records for this family?

If someone isn’t willing to help then you have done the right thing by asking elsewhere.

Apologies if this has already been covered and I'm talking BS...

I have been looking into your family tree on FS and I think there is a confusion about Hannah...

If your great grandfather Samuel Benjamin COOPER was the son of John Edward(s) COOPER and Catherine Mary ROBINSON, Hannah (nee MASSEY) was Catherine's mother and Samuel ROBINSON was her father.

Hannah MASSEY married Samuel ROBINSON in 1838, Stockport.

John Edward(s) COOPER was he son of Benjamin COOPER and Elizabeth EDWARDS.

Elizabeth and Benjamin married in St Mary's Catholic Church in Mancherster in 1832.

I think your great grandfather was named after his two grandfathers (Samuel ROBINSON and Benjamin COOPER) and his sister Hannah Elizabeth COOPER was named after her two grandmothers (Hannah MASSEY and Elizabeth EDWARDS).

The 1861 Census has the family as ROBBISON on Ancestry and ROBISON on FamilySearch (I don't have access to the full records, I'm in Brazil) - Samuel (45), Hannah (44), Cath(e)rine Mary (17), Ellen (15), Margaret (13), Robert (13), Betty (7), Sarah Ann (2) and Cathrine (75- probably Samuel's mother).

I have added this info to the FS family tree and if there is any error I'd be glad to rectify the entries.
