Rosina Can this be dated please?
« on: Saturday 03 May 25 11:38 BST (UK) »
I have the attached photo from my family collection and I'm not sure who this couple are. I'd appreciate a date if someone can help. Could it have been taken prior to October 1918? Personally it looks later to me, but I'm no expert.

This is difficult to date as neither of them seem to show definite hints of a 'period' but I think it could be early to mid 1920s.

The man's suit looks a little disheveled. He's not wearing a watch chain (late 19C - early 20C) but has a bow tie.His hair style looks 1920s.

The lady is wearing quite a long dress or thin  coat  but her strap shoes and hairstyle seem 1920s.

Difficult one.

I'll draw Carol and Jim's attention to this.

The lady's dress also appears to have a dropped waist which was popular in the 1920's and out of fashion by the late 1930's.

Thanks for the replies so far. I too thought of the1920s, but of the couple I hoped it might be, the man died in October 1918.

I've had a message from Carol (Treetotal) to say that she also thinks it's 1920s.

Jim has replied to say that he thinks my estimate is pretty close. The only query id whether she has a zip on her dress. If it is it could push it into the 1930s

Do you have Rosina's dates?.

I've played around and I can't see a zip. The skirt part looks like pleating to me.

If so, it would be 1920s

* Add - I don't see a zip or signs of fasteners on the top part either

Did she have a brother? I see some similar features - chin and nose in particular.
