Looking for John Delaney's Death Certificate
« on: Wednesday 30 April 25 19:58 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am looking for some help finding the death certificate of my great-great grandfather, John Delaney. He was married to Annie Glennon. He was born in 1871 in Laois and was married in 1891 in Abbyleix. I have looked on IrishGenealogy.com but I want to make sure I have the right one!

Thank you!

....and in 1901 census, living with Annie's widowed mother and sibling.

As Sinann said, we need more information to be able to help find his death.

Hi,

As far as I am aware he didn't move away from where he was living. I am not sure when he might have died but I know Annie died in 1943. So I presume he died around the same time. Their son Christopher was present when Annie died. She died in Coole.

I looked through all the John Delaney deaths that came up - or at least a good few and this is the one that most closely seems plausable.

This death for Anne

Where she is listed as married, which pushes John’s death to after November 1943.

There are a couple of newspaper reports about trespass on Annie's land. In one, it gives the address as Coole, Kilbricken, so I think entry 436 here: https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/files/civil/deaths_returns/deaths_1952/04491/4179523.pdf
is John's death. 1st February 1952.

That looks to be the correct one!

Here's the marriage of Michael Delaney (farmer of Killeany) to Mary Clooney - 8 August 1945. His father John Delaney a farmer. Mary Delaney was the informant on the death record of John. Note that one of the witnesses was Christopher Delaney (his younger brother).

That all looks good.
You can see now the kind of information needed to find a death.
Age (when born)
Address
Married, widowed or single
If widowed from what date (date of spouses death)
Names of possible informants

Even with all that it’s sometimes still not possible to find the correct cert if the person died in hospital it can be impossible to be sure it’s the one you need.
