Donovan brothers from Durris?
« on: Tuesday 29 April 25 19:20 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find the origins of two Cork brothers who can be found in Dublin in the 1901 census as young men - Michael Donovan and his younger brother John Donovan.

1901 census
Residents of 45 in Ballsbridge Terrace (Part of) (Pembroke West, Dublin)
James McDonnell head RC 43 horse keeper born Carlow town
Boarders
Michael Donovan RC 20 Clerk born Co Cork
John Donovan RC 14 Clerk born Co Cork

Their father was a Michael Donovan farmer who was deceased by 1908 (marriage of Michael Donovan junior 1908 stated that his father was deceased).

The 1908 marriage (Church) certificate states that Michael Donovan senior was  from the Durrus area in Cork.
Family tradition also mentions Schull (on the other side of the local mountain from Durrus).

I have the family tree traced from these two brothers so really want to find the family in Cork so any help would be appreciated.

The civil marriage registration does say father is deceased but not where he was from.

Well, if Michael was 20 on the 1901 census and 30 on the 1911, then he was born ca. 1880, not 1882 as on the family tree.

So here is a good candidate.

Michael Donovan, son of Michael Donovan and Jane Donovan, bapt. Durrus 7/11/1880.

Civil registration of same birth - DOB 12/11/1880 (a clear case of premature baptism).
Durrus registration district.
Bantry SRD.

Father, Michael, a shopkeeper. Which may or may not be inconsistent with being a farmer (one could be both).

Marriage of Michael Donovan and Jane Donovan in 1872. And behold, Michael is now a farmer!

Address where Michael was born in 1880 was Ahakista, a village
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahakista

The village is located in the townland of Reenacappul

It is adjacent to several other townlands.
