Yes ,thanks, I had not thought of that .
My daughter in a similar business - motor cycles -has a good idea about the law and duty of care etc.
She had someone in the showroom a little time ago, they were young and not really paying attention to what was being said re safety on a test drive etc so it was decided not let him have a test ride, let alone sell him a motorbike.
His father came in a few days later , they expected trouble but no, he thanked them ,saying it was worrying him and the boy’s mother so much - their son was not  really mature enough and would be goaded by friends to do dangerous things , his son was so easily influenced .He thanked her for refusing to sell his son a bike.
I  did not have anything like a tutorial,  just a ride down the pavement ,some manoeuvres ,turns etc ,mounting and dismounting kerbs etc which is the special safety feature ,I liked it very much , so ordered one and paid .
It had to be put into my son’s next door as too wide for my gate and two steps down into the garden needed a ramp.
Also needed a good secure shed for insurance purposes.I did not yet have that.
We ought to have refused delivery until all was ready but since my second heart attack last September and hospitalisation with atrial fibrillation I have been pretty housebound and was wanting to get out and about .
So out in to my son’s utility room because 100mph gales were forecast that night.
It stayed until a  very short  time ago .
My son took me out twice to get used to it but the front side wheel tyre came off imounting a kerb which is the special safety feature of all the company’s mobility scooters .
All have five wheels ,like a tricycle at the front and two back wheels .

It is a huge daunting monster ,not a bit like the one I test rode  so easily .
The salesmen came back and took me for another test drive which  was lovely just as I remembered ,I was told I was riding the one I had  test ridden  before ,it it was not the version I had been sold,so I had not had a rest drive
on the only model I had expressed an interest in yet that was what they sold me.So I had test ridden another model ,I had never seen one of the type they delivered before and was shocked at its size and complexity , but thought I had ridden an older version perhaps ,but the salesman said I was riding another model completely ,so I had not had a test run on the one I was interested in and which they sold me .I know full well I would not have got on one had that been brought out of the delivery van ,the screen / dashboard has about fifteen symbols ,there were five on the one I test rode .
I commented on that on the second test ride ,the salesman said I was again on the one I test rode which was a different and simpler model than what I had been sold -!!!!
I won’t get a refund because it has sat so long in my son’s for safety until a shed was delivered etc .
Only if I buy from them again will I get a refund  which will be £3,950 ,
£2,000 less than I had paid and a simpler model will be £4,900 so I will really be out of pocket .
But to sell me one I had not ridden and let me think  I was riding the only model I had expressed any interest in ———
Not right at all.
So we will see ,they have not phoned me back and when they do I am to ask them to speak with my with my daughter ,it really winds me up and I feel very shaky ,get angry etc.
So we will see.

Well in bed , so must say goodnight and go to sleep.
Cheerio.Viktoria.

Thanks Jeff

I have not seen an Australian War Memorial like that one.

According to CWGC, Sutton Veny (St John), Wiltshire, has 170 casualties, from both World Wars it seems.

I know of four in my family from just two surnames who lost their lives in WW 1 & 2.

One an Englishman, was a Japanese P.O.W., on the Burma Railroad. I mentioned his P.O.W., work in Burma and burial place to a Japanese P.O.W., Researcher and he said that my relation was likely to be on a Japanese Red Cross Ship, bombed by the Allies (own forces - Friendly).

WW 2

So you survive P.O.W. life on one of the most infamous Japanese Railway projects, put on a Hospital Ship, flying a Red Cross Flag, which was bombed by your own side, get to hospital and pass away in Hospital.

A.I. generated ...
During World War II, several Japanese Red Cross ships were sunk, some carrying prisoners of war. The Rakuyo Maru and Kachidoki Maru, carrying Allied POWs, were sunk by US submarines in September 1944. The Rakuyo Maru, carrying 1317 British and Australian POWs, and the Kachidoki Maru, with 900 British POWs, were both attacked and sunk. Additionally, the Junyo Maru, another ship carrying POWs and romushas (Javanese slave laborers), was also sunk by a British submarine, according to the Imperial War Museums.
End of AI text.

"The sinking of the Junyo Maru on 18 September 1944 was one of the deadliest maritime disasters of the Second World War, killing over 5,000 POWs and romushas."

 ---------------

Another family member was involved in an "Air Crash" in the UK returning from a Night Operation over Occupied Territory, which was one of many listed in the "Friendly" Files at the Public Record Office, now TNA, Kew.

They were returning on an Operational Flying Sortie when the friendly incident occurred.

So his loss was classed as Friendly, but he was also "killed in action", because the crew were flying on an operation against an enemy.

At the end of the war, there is a note on their AIR 81 Air Ministry file, from one Section to another, to ensure all the crew are showing as accidental loss [nothing to do with the Germans at all], which is what they must have told my Grandmother a few days afterward. Because his Deaths notice and a piece in the newspaper 6 days later says his loss was due to a "Flying Accident".

However, the British propaganda machine changed the evening newspaper report of their [R.A.F.] "Bomber Crash" by the adjacent householder (named) and repeated it again a few days later, with a Report of German raiders later that day and suggesting the original report was a German raider that they had successfully brought down. What a cheek!

Locals I traced 25 years ago, said they knew the family at the nearby house and that the R.A.F., bomber was brought down by our own defences and had I come across these others within the same month, which we had in the official records.

The daughter who fomerly lived at the nearby house, recalled the crash and had more to add. An Operations file, stated one of two R.A.F. bombers brought down by British defences early that morning states that one R.A.F., bomber was also engaged by a "friendly aircraft", but not damaged.

Despite what happened, I'll keep his medals and papers. The Squadron did write a letter later that year to the Solicitor acting when he asked how his loss occurred, which partly summarised what happened and the defence organisation who were responsible.

Spent happy afternoon murdering snowberry seedlings -how quickly they have grown back since last year's invasion by them!! A former neighbour allowed them to get through their inadequate fencing on all sides, and the rest of us are still reaping - and heaping- the products!! Talk about painting the Forth Bridge!!
Too hot to do more now. But I'm sure the snowberry invasion will keep on.

A glorious day, beds stripped, washed ,ironed and aired( steam iron)now to remake the beds.
Son left for head office yesterday, might be away a bit longer than usual this time.
Just read my meters ,to submit to energy supplier .

I dried some pepper seeds last Autumn, planted them a few weeks back and they have germinated !
Even if no peppers they are quite attractive.

Just me for tea, so hot I might just have salad and the rest of the Sunday ham.

Lots more photos of Lily ,she can find her mouth to replace her dummy  !
Gets cross but manages it !

They are not kept babies very long nowadays ,perhaps that is why some never grow up properly ——- a long childhood is needed or people are often infantile adults .

I think some hollyhock seeds are germinating in the pot I had one in last year.Il like them ,up and up it grew .
A delphinium is coming on too.

Not seen any insects to pollinate my little apple trees and so much blossom so I have been busy with a paintbrush - hope it works .
A Bramley and a Cox’s ,
Well Spring bulbs over now so drying for next year.

Best wishes to those unwell and those with other problems .
Cheerio for now.
Viktoria.

A beautiful hot day, so I washed my thick cotton bedspread and left it out to dry while I went off to the garden centre with my daughter to buy a present for her husband's birthday next Monday.  Apparently he wanted it a large decorative terracotta tub to put his olive tree in and luckily we found one pretty quickly, so looked round at all the different kinds of stuff on sale there - clothing, sandals and sports shoes, kitchenalia, stationery and more, and of course there was a café, so we had coffee and rather large fruit scones.

The bedspread was dry when we got back and we found my husband sitting out in the garden with a long cool drink.   Don't feel much like cooking in this heat, but I must make an effort and feed the brute!  Last night we had Greek salad, which was delicious, though I found the lettuce (Sweet Gem) a bit tough.  Tonight we will have Chicken Kyivs (thanks M&S) with new potatoes and broccoli.

The peace of the garden has just been disturbed by our neighbour, who has just started to mow his lawn with his ancient and extremely noisy mower.

Viktoria
You really should not have to put up with the kind of service you have received from the motor suppliers.  >:( Do let your daughter deal with them and shame them into dealing with you properly.

Viktoria,

Your Quingo problem sounds like a case for the Rip off Britain team on BBC 1. Try emailing them and see if they will take it up, particularly given your age and health problems. Your whole   sorry saga is  just the sort of thing that they follow up.

If nothing else, the thought of the bad publicity on National TV  should make the Quingo company sit up and take notice
