Still no idea how Edward and Ann were cousins but I made a mistake with Sarah Moore (Chadborne), as I'd confused her death with that of Sarah Moore (Draper) of Rowington. Adjusted death to Jan 1834, Knowle, birth c. 1775.

Can't find anymore on the Chadbornes. One record above Sarah's marriage record at Knowle is an Elizabeth Chadborne who married "Theophilus Richards" of Birmingham on 3 Apr 1793. Thought I'd find more based on the unusual name but haven't been able to work anything back yet.

I can find a Thomas Moore baptised 24th April 1810 at Knowle where the 1793 Marriage was, which ties in with the Census age, but Knowle is not the Birthplace in the Census, which is Rowington?

Charles Moore and Family in the 1841 Census. The National Archives HO 107/1124/17

Kite Green (I think it is also called Kyte Green), near Preston Green, Preston Bagot, Warwickshire.

Preston Green to Henley in Arden is less than 2 miles by road.

 ---------------------

Beaudesert is East of Henley in Arden.

1850
It looks like Charles Moore, 63 years, has passed away at Beaudesert, nr Henley in Arden.

Born about 1787.

These downloads don't give the Sub-district, only the Registration District as Stratford upon Avon.

 ---------------------

I'll add this, should you decide to broaden your tree out in the future, in case they might be related, or not.

Shakespeare Birthplace Trust Record Office
ER11/30/5
[Unexecuted] Bond from Phoebe Court, Bridge Town, widow, and Thomas Moore, Preston Bagot, farmer, to Charles Frederick Loggin, S/A, chemist and druggist, in penal sum £400 as collateral security on a mortgage dated 22 May 1852 of 'The Shoulder of Mutton' for £1800 and further mortgage for £200.

1856

Bridge Town, might refer to the Bridgetown part of Stratford upon Avon?

I don't feel Edward Moore can be the common ancestor, to make the couple marrying in 1865, Edward Moore & Ann Moore, a Cousin, marriage. Because of the Birthplace in 1851 Census in Reply #20.

Added: Also Charles Moore is a lot older in the 1841 Census. Reply #21.

Found an 1847 Thomas Moore, 65 yrs, registered Stratford on Avon and also decided to see if I could find a Preston Bagot burial for this Thomas Moore.

I will leave you, if you wish to see who the Informant was on the Certificate?

Elizabeth Moore, his Wife, may have died in 1842?

Two, Elizabeth Moore, registered in 1842, Stratford on Avon, ages only one year difference:-
Sept Qtr, 55 years.
Dec Qtr, 56 years.

 ---------------

Starting with what we can establish from Charles Moore in 1841, apparently with your relation Ann Moore, at Kite Green, Preston Bagot ...

1841 Census at Kite Green, Preston Bagot
(Snippet in Reply #21)

Charles Moore, 50, Ag Lab, Y.
Sarah Moore, 30, Y.
And family
Ann Moore, 6, Y. [Your ancestor]

Charles Moore, born very approximately 1791.

In the 1841 Census ages are rounded down to the nearest 5.

1850, Beaudesert, Warwickshire
Charles Moore died Beaudesert, Warwickshire, 63 years, born 1787.

See image Reply # 21

 --------------------

1841 Census, Preston Bagot
Thomas Moore, 55, Farmer, Y.
Eliz'th Moore, 50, Y.
Sophia Moore, 15, Y.
William Moore, 13, Y.
Three Servants, named.

1807 Preston Bagot, 27th August, by Licence.
Thomas Moore & Elizabeth Anchor
Present as wits: Ann Anchor ; Charles Smith.

(Charles Smith, above marriage is interesting, because a Smith marries a Moore ...
1813 Joseph Smith of Sambourn, Parish of Coughton, Warwickshire married Sarah Moore of Preston Bagot, Present as wit's: Mary Damaris Moore ; George Perks )

1847 Preston Bagot, Burials
Thomas Moore, Preston Bagot, 26th December, 65 years.

Born about 1782

Common Parentage Suggestion?

I will leave you to check that none of the following 1786 and 1782 baptisms were buried, before their respective marriages?

1786 Preston Bagot, Warwickshire
17th November, Charles, Son of John and Martha More.

1782 Preston Bagot, Warwickshire
11th June, Thomas, Son of John and Martha More.

Note: Thomas More, baptism 17th January 1781 at Preston Bagot, with same parents, so possibly a burial quite soon after baptism, unless the baptism was noted twice?

Ok, so here’s what I have..

Edward & Ann
Edward Moore (b. 1837) marries Ann Moore (b.1835) in 1865 in Leamington Priors. A news article in 1932 (Stratford Herald) states that Edward and Ann were cousins.

All census birthplace data for Edward Moore lists Rowington, birth year 1837/38. There’s a baptism in Rowington 27 Aug 1837, father Thomas, mother Elizabeth. Edward is living with his parents in Rowington in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 censuses.

All census birthplace data for Ann Moore lists Preston Bagot, birth year 1835/36. There’s a baptism for Ann March 1835 in Preston Bagot, father Charles, mother Sarah. The Stratford Herald interview in 1930 confirms her father was Charles and she was living with a Charles and Sarah in the 1841 census. Her father’s estimated birth year is 1791, mother’s 1811.

Ann’s parents - Charles & Sarah
There’s a baptism for a Charles Moore in Preston Bagot 17 Nov 1786, father John, mother Martha. willsy’s post reveals John’s will that mentions children Charles and Thomas. Charle’s dies 1850, burial Beaudesert.

The only marriage I have has been mentioned, March 1827 Aston, “Sarah Bradeley”. I know nothing about Sarah, other than her estimated birth year, father unknown, mother unknown. Sarah dies 1842, burial Preston Bagot.

Edward’s parents - Thomas & Elizabeth
This is where it gets interesting. When Edward is living with his parents, his father’s estimated birth year is 1811, mother’s 1812/13. Father’s birthplace is Rowington on all censuses. Mother’s is Shrewley or Hatton. There’s a baptism 16 Aug 1812 in Hatton for a “Elizabeth Joyner”, father Thomas Joyner, mother Mary Halford. There’s no marriage record that I could find, but this is what has been in my tree for years. I couldn’t find a baptism in Rowington for Thomas either, nearest I got was a baptism 24 Apr 1810 in Knowle (6 miles away), parent’s Edward and Sarah (Chadborne).

However, Charles had a brother Thomas baptised 11 Jun 1782 Preston Bagot. (There was another Thomas born 1781 but died in infancy). Married an Elizabeth Anchor in 1807 – so there’s an actual marriage cert available here. Children born of this Thomas would make then cousins with Ann. Elizabeth’s age gives a birth around 1791, so would be 46 if Edward is her son. I can’t find a baptism for Edward. They are also living in Preston Bagot not Rowington. Thomas dies 1848, Elizabeth in 1842.

Children I did find:
  • Eliza 1815
  • Thomas 1817
  • Martha 1819
  • Sarah 1821
  • Sophia 1826
  • William 1828
Nothing really matches up with this one, other than the cousin link, so I’m wary of this one.

So really none the wiser I think, although for certain we can say Edward’s parents were a Thomas and Elizabeth and for Ann, her parents were Charles and Sarah. For Charles as well, I’d be happy to say his parents were John and Martha.

Ann Moore, Wife, Mar, 35, Shoe Maker Wife, Preston Bagot.

Thomas H Moore, 3, Son,
Frank Moore, 1, Son,
William Moore, 1 mo,

Mark

There is an Edward Moore, Birth Registration District, Warwick, Sept Qtr 1837.

The September Births Quarter 1837 was the very beginning of Birth Registration. The Birth may of occurred months or some time before the 1837 baptism.

My Dictionary says this about a cousin 1. the child of one's aunt or uncle. 2. a relative descended from one of one's common ancestors.
