Sarah Moore Henley in Arden

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for the death registration for a "Sarah Moore" (nee Bradley(?)), wife of Charles Moore of Preston Bagot. There appears to be a burial for a Sarah Moore aged 33 on the 4 Jan 1842 in Preston Bagot, which is a similar age given in the 1841 census (30). Given the small population, it's most likely this is the Sarah Moore I'm after but I'm struggling to find the death on the GRO online indexes.

I don't really know anything about her other than she may have married Charles at Aston in 1827, hence the maiden name of Bradley. I'd love to push this line back further but lack evidence.

If it's a help her husband Charles appears to have died in 1850, an "Eliza Carpenter" is present at the death.

Sarah Moore, that you mention Buried at Preston Bagot, Warwickshire, the Burial Register 1842 says her Abode was Henley in Arden, Buried Jan'y 4th, Age 33.

But Henley in Arden did not come under Stratford on Avon Registration District until 1957. - Regarding the Registration District this may be incorrect? See my next reply.

Looking at the 1841 Census, it seems Henley in Arden was classed as a Hamlet under Wootton Wawen?

Wootton Wawen - Stratford Registration District 1837 to 1985

Even though Henley in Arden appeared to have been a Hamlet earlier in 1841, I was told as a boy that there was a Hospital at Henley in Arden, in old times, I think the building was a Public House / Inn?

My late Grandad pointed out the building on the main High Street, because he was a Gardener at the County Hospital Hatton, renamed Central Hospital, Hatton.

It seems Henley in Arden had a few private establishments and Asylums

Where are the 2 youngest children in 1851 - Jane b 1838 & Charles b 1840

Charles is buried 6 Sept 1841. His entry is 3 above Sarah Moore's

And a Jane Moore the right age is a servant in Henley in Arden - has that as her birthplace

I have the same information as Mabel for the last two children

I am a descendant of Ann Moore (b. 1835), she lived until 1932 and was once the oldest person in Henley in Arden. The Stratford Herald interviewed her in 1930: https://www.stratford-herald.com/whats-on/history-the-day-henley-s-oldest-resident-saw-a-man-wanted-9349680/

In the article it states:

"Her father was in his 50s by the time she was born, and although she only mentioned her mother dying when she was young, and that she was orphaned at six, it seems that her father actually died when she was 15."

So this corelates nicely with 1842 burial of Sarah.

If it's helpful the article also mentions:

"Ann Moore was born at Preston Bagot on 6 March 1835; her father Charles worked at Manor Farm as an agricultural labourer. She was one of at least 11 children, not all of whom survived, and by the time she was six, she said she had been orphaned. Ann was then informally adopted by family friends who ran the White Horse Inn in Henley. She started work from a young age as a servant, waiting on the coaches that pulled up at the inn."
