How to find a burial in Dublin
« on: Monday 21 April 25 09:30 BST (UK) »
Hello, my husband's grandmother died in Meath Hospital in December 1959. She lived in the centre of Dublin for most of her life. How do I find out where she is buried? I've checked Glasnevin and Deansgrange but she doesn't turn up there. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Thanks, Jane

Earlier topic was looking for grandfather who died Dec.1959 and turned out to be buried in Mount Jerome-

Was the grandmother you are now looking for married to this grandfather? (you didn't tell us her name)
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

No sorry, this is the other side of the family. Just a coincidence they died within days of each other. Her name was Kitty (Catherine) Tobin.

Also in Mount Jerome
There a new search site for Mount Jerome, not all burials on it yet but Kitty is there as Kathleen Tobin.

This is the text of the death notice from the 'Irish Independent' of 1st April, 1959. Is it the same person? She was listed as a spinster on the death record.

TOBIN (Windy Arbour) - March 31,
1959, at St. Vincent's Hospital,
Kathleen, daughter of the late William
and Catherine Tobin, late of 289
Farranboley, Windy Arbour, to the in-
expressible grief of her brothers and
sisters. R.I.P. Remains will be removed
this (Wednesday) evening at 5 o'c.
to Church of the Miraculous Medal,
Clonskeagh. Funeral after 10 o'c. Mass
tomorrow (Thursday) to Mount Jerome
cemetery.

Your Kitty is the death on 20th December. I will see is there a notice.
**edit*** not seeing one, sorry. She is probably with her husband, wherever he is.

That is actually a different one, thank you. My Kathleen Tobin is the one who was 71 when she died 20 December 1959 and I'm very grateful for you providing that link. Her husband Michael Tobin actually died in Grangegorman Mental Hospital in 1936 and I'm still looking for his burial.

That is a lovely website for burial records - is it a subscription site?  It's probably just me but I can't see any information about it.

You could probably put in a request to the National Archives for information on his burial from the hospital.

If you click on All Interments on Kathleen’s record on the Mount Jerome site you can see everyone buried with her but Michael isn’t one of them. All unrelated going by the surnames.

That site doesn’t have all it’s records online yet so Michael could be there somewhere.
