Looking for a birth Edward Smith born 1698 Tredegar Monmouthshire
« on: Saturday 12 April 25 10:54 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am looking for a birth record for Edward Smith born 1698 Tredegar. My 6 x Great Grandfather.    I would appreciate any information on his Smith family as well.

My information so far on Edward Smith born 1698 I am struggling to find his birth. he is buried 1734 in St Mary The virgin Church Caldicot he was a yeoman and had a farm called claypits farm Burwash Chepstow.  I have a copy of his Will.

My dad said the boundaries so that might have something to do with me not finding him.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Who did he marry & which of his children are you descended from?

There is no age on the 1734 burial record - how have you determined his birthyear was 1698?

Thank you for replying Edward Smith married Elizabeth Herbert 1725 St Mary's Church Redcliffe Bristol and I descend from there son Thomas Smith .

Edward Smith and Elizabeth Smith had four children Anne, Vere 1726 Thomas 1729 and Edward Smith all noted in Edward Smith's Will also a William Herbert signed it brother of Elizabeth Herbert, also Vere Herbert and William Herbert are in documents to do with Herefordshire as William Herbert married Henry Scudamore daughter Winifred Scudamore they lived at Caldicott Court in Caldicott I would like to know where that is.
Thanks
Elizĺloyd

In Edward Smith's burial record on freereg.org it gives his abode as Pwdrgar in Caldicot I have looked for a place called Pwdrgar but couldn't find anything and wondered if it meant Tredegar instead.

Who did he marry & which of his children are you descended from?

It does look as though it could say Tredegar on his burial but that would normally indicate where he was living at the time rather than a place of birth, unless of course Tredegar was the 'family seat'  ;D.

Do you have a burial for his wife Elizabeth  :-\
