In the seeming absence of a marriage I wonder if the gentleman in the attached 1871 census might have been the father. Was he a letter carrier in London? who knows. He does go on to marry and have a family and died 1906.

SS

Discounted that one as too young and wrong occupation. Just did not like it.

Don't know about burial but death record gives Thomas Tuppeny, Upholsterer as the father and Elizabeth as being in attendance.

Sorry, that was Clara's death - she died in Hatherop (Cirencester) in 1870

It said Elizabeth Edgington not Elizabeth Tuppenney though so she wasn’t claiming to be Mrs Tuppenney then which begs the question if she ever was.

Tend to think Elizabeth Tuppenney widow was a bit of a fib.

That just shows I should read more death certificates.  I was just thinking it showed her maiden name as in a birth certificate, not her present name, as in never married.  Though that would make Clara really Clara Edgington as calling her Tuppenney would be to deceive.

Yes, looks like a fib that any marriage happened.

Just might have a possible to investigate here in 1871 Fairford

Transcribed as Eliza Livepenny

born 1844 Hatherop

Age 27 servant housemaid

If there actually is an Eliza Livepenny born Hatherop 1844 I will eat my hat!
