Amy Yates (who died as a child) is baptised in 1904 Todmordan.  Born 1 March 1901. 

Father William painter
Mother Ellen

Thanks Millipede, yes that’s the family. Again a strange occurrence as most children in those days were baptised not long after birth… Also Annie Yates can be found on the 1921 Census (age 17) living with her step sister Elizabeth (Eli & Ellen’s daughter) so they presumably knew each other prior to their mothers death in 1916… thanks once again.. regards Jayhen

If that is the right Yates family there is an Annie Yates baptised same time

I note that Ellen’s Children with William name him as William Yates on their birth records and so Ellen went along with the deceit.. I wonder why?.. perhaps we will never know

More respectable perhaps than them having a different surname. 

If they had been married then Holding would be a legitimate surname for them.
