Jane Church (previously Moore - nee Neville) Coolup Western Australia
« on: Thursday 10 April 25 08:23 BST (UK) »
Hi Roots Chatters
I am looking for information on my Great great Grandmother Jane Church (previously Moore - nee Neville) 1865-1956

She was born in County Armagh Ireland in 1865. In 1885, at the age of 20 she sailed SOLO to Australia on the Duke of Sutherland. What a journey that must have been - 2 months in transit!

She married Thomas Moore in Brisbane in 1891 & had 2 daughters Sarah Ann (my great grandmother) & Martha Ellen.

Both Thomas & Ellen died within 2 years.

Sometime from 1895-1903 Jane & Sarah move to Coolup WA where she marries George William Edward Church

I have seen a few posts about George Church which have filled in a few blanks - thank you to Ian Church & another post I think George’s Great-great grandchild (I can’t remember the user name I’m sorry)

I am keen to know

How/why Jane moved to WA?
How Jane & George met?

& ANY info on Gladys Ernestina Church (George’s granddaughter) & Irene Ethel Moore (Jane’s granddaughter) who lived with them in Coolup

I am happy to help any others with information
Thanks for reading
Jo

Welcome to Rootschat.
You may well have this, but if not, there is Probate for George online. He died 13th September 1937, and had been a Farmer, leaving everything to his wife Jane Church after his funeral costs etc.
There is an Ernistina Church (could be yours as quite an unusual name) who marries a Daniel Rule in Kalgoorlie WA 1898. You didn't give any dates for her, so don't know if this ties in with how old she would have been.
Regards.

Hi Jo,

Sorry, no luck answering your questions.  John Moore died at Dunwich Asylum in 1894 of tuberculosis and is buried there.  The most likely reason I can think of moving to Western Australia would be family.  Could any of her siblings have emigrated and been living there?

Yes, I have quite a bit of info on her first husband Thomas Forgrave Moore who died at Dunwich

Great suggestion re: family the reading for the move to WA

I only know of her having one brother. One source says they were twins, another lists William born the year before in 1864

Hi
Can you tell us about the contents of any certificates you hold in connection with Jane , her children and her marriages?

What were her parents' names?
