As in previous replies - no death for John so who is buried with who - & why?

Ask the church when John Hakesley died?    If he died long before 1923 then had the lease (or similar) on his grave expired & was then released as a "new" grave?

There is no point trying to establish a connection between the 2 when there is no obvious record of a death for Hakesley.

Hi,

This seems very odd. I found this list,

https://www.milfordhistory.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/all-saints-alphabetical-deceased-listing-apr-2013-1.pdf

Which shows,

Ref No       Name               DOD          Age   Burial Date   Ashes   Burial Year   Are   Co   Row Zone  GraveI
1770    John Hakesley    13/01/2012    79                   07/02/2012      2012          3     Fa      25        3Fa25a2

but,

Ref No       Name                        DOD          Age   Burial Date   Ashes   Burial Year       Are   Co   Row Zone  GraveI
1842 Scott Barchard Wilson  *  24/01/1923    58                                     1923                  3      G      25          3G25a

Ref No          Name                        DOD          Age   Burial Date   Ashes   Burial Year   Are   Co   Row Zone  GraveI
1841   Elizabeth Mary Reeves    18/05/2004     0                                          2004            3      G      25          3G25a

The references are very similar but I'm not sure if John HAKESLEY is in the same column?

This article says "Scott Barchard Wilson is buried in an unmarked grave at All Saints' Church Graveyard in Milford on the Sea. The burial site is situated between the grave of Reeves to the right and the grave of Wilcox to the left, and is so old it is buried beneath the surface"  I've no idea what that means.

I wonder if James HAKESLEY's reference means he had his ashes placed on or near Scott WILSON's grave?

I can't find a map of the churchyard so I think it would be worth contacting the church again to see if they can explain this.

What I received:

I have checked our records and we have a Scott Barchard Wilson who died age 58 in 1923.
If this is the correct name, age and date then the grave is in our area 3, behind the church.

Row G and Column 25, we will mark the plot with a pole today.

The plots near there are TRIST, REEVES and WILLCOX.

and

Just to say that the plot is marked for John Hakesley, the name Wilson does not appear on the tablet.
Their remains appear to be buried together, I assume therefore that Scott Wilson and John Hakesley are related.

@reply #11

That last link –the biography– is very interesting. It says that Scott B Wilson committed suicide. Perhaps this is why I couldn’t find anything about his death in newspapers.

Please could someone educate me: in 1923, what was the policy of the Church on the burial of suicides?

Added: More careful reading of the linked article reveals that there was coverage of the death in a local paper that is not available at BNA (The Lymington & South Hants Chronicle, 25 January 1923).

I'm still confused, the table shows John HAKESLEY is in Co. Fa not G maybe it's because it is ashes?

I wonder if there could be any information available here?

This info. is about suicides and burials,
