Extension of the Wichlow family
« on: Tuesday 08 April 25 08:43 BST (UK) »
I need help with this family again.
Parents John Tarrant born 1858 and Eliza Sarah Kimberley born 1856, they married in 1881, living in Southwick.
According to the 1911 census they had 10 children, 4 had died.
I have found the 6  children but not the 10

Rosa May 1884-1935
John Thomas 1886-1917

Have you checked the GRO birth/death registrations to see if you can find the missing ones?

Start from the date of the marriage and head up to 1911.

3 different spellings for MMN on the children you have listed

Kimblery
Kimberly
Kimberley
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos

I think the correct 1891 is transcribed as Marion 3 but should be 8 and refer to Mary Ann.

Eliza is on that age 2.

Address 8 Adam’s Place Southwark
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Thank you Milliepede.  I was looking for Rosa, I should have tried Roser  ::). Not helped as it has been transcribed as Farrant on FindMyPast.

1901 is under Farrant on mine with Marion 18 Rose M 16 John 10 James 7
Hope that is the right/same family as John should be older.

Although not at all relevant to your query about the children, I thought that you might be interested in some information about their address in 1911.

Firstly, here is a view of the area on a 1911 large scale OS map:

https://maps.nls.uk/view/231272364#zoom=4.8&lat=7209&lon=9495&layers=BT

I can't pinpoint it exactly, but no. 28 was on the stretch where the "Street" of Avonmouth Street is, and was on the south-west side of the street. I know this because in the 1910 evaluation records (Llloyd George Domesday) no. 28 is bundled into a

Block of prop. bounded by Avonmouth St., Uxbridge St.,Dorset St., & Tarn St. (including site of Linwood Place)

This whole block was owned by the Licensed Victuallers' Asylum, which you can read about here:

https://londonhistorians.wordpress.com/2024/01/10/the-licensed-victuallers-asylum-part-2/

Additional details from the record for no. 28 are:
Private house, occupier E Joyner [matches the 1911 census]
rent: 10s per week.
rates and repairs: W H King [presumably of the Licensed Victuallers' Asylum organisation]

an old brick and tile cottage containing 4 rooms & washhouse
frontage
Boyd, Dove, Blakey, Burdon

As Mary Ann, Rosa, John T & James are all around in 1901 perhaps the 6 deceased did not have their births registered.  Maybe you need to be looking at deaths for infants where there is no apparent birth registration
