OP, I have had a good gander at your related thread about your bio grandfather and find it interesting. I take it this new thread is about the same person?

Yes it is related to the same person - I just want to be 100% sure that my grandfather who is on my dads birth certificate is not adopted - I have asked my dads assumed full-blood brother if he could do a DNA test but for now I was wondering if it was possible to just see if there was any chance to do a search or claim an adoptive certificate on the GRO, if not, I did hear that it's possible that the British Library (I think) has adoption Index that  I could visit

Hi - I'm trying to research on the GRO for adoption records to see if my grandfather is possibly adopted - but I am kind of confused by the GRO.

I type in all of the information that is required to submit, but when it goes onto the confirmation screen, does it mean the adoption certificate exists and i'm paying to get the adoption certificate, or am I paying to see if it exists? I am really confused by this - because I don't want to pay that much if the certificate doesn't actually exist.

Could anyone help explain? Thank you

The following agrees with a previous reply ...

Gov.uk GRO AI (Art. Intell.), says:-

No Searchable Index:
There isn't a public, searchable online index of adoption records
.

End of A.I., reference.

Standard Full Birth and Other Certificates

Regarding the online ordering of a standard Full Birth Certificate, Death or Marriage, from GRO online, some of us get our details from Free BMD Image of the actual old Public GRO Index and insert the details manually, because the Birth or Death entry may be missing or obscure (spelt wrong) on GRO gov.uk online search index.

On Free BMD Index Image, but Not on GRO Index
I wanted a Birth Certificate 2-3 weeks ago, showing on the Free BMD Index, but nothing on GRO online, so raised it as a Missing Entry on the GRO Online Index with the GRO.

Missing entry now rectified, showing on GRO Index Online and been ordered as a £3.00  download.

GRO Ask Twice when Ordering
Regarding the GRO Index and Ordering page, everyone is asked twice, before making payment that they have inserted correct Name, District, Volume and Page Number and details, as I presume the GRO won't refund you (or deduct a search fee), if the person ordering has inserted something wrong and the GRO can't find it.
