Hello, this is a photo of my great great grandmother, Harriet Hall Brind, born in 1809 in Clains, Worcestershire. Next to her is my great great grandmother, Mary Brind Gwynn, born in 19 March 1862 in Droitwich Reg district, Worcestershire. I was just wondering if there's any way of guessing a date for the photo. I am just guessing and I am terrible at guessing ages. Would this type of photo with those 'fancy' sort of looking dresses be normal for the time. My great grandfather Joseph P. Gwynn was a commercial traveler, which I believe translates as a traveleing sales representative. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks for the guess Japeflakes, That would be a little later than I thought but certainly possible. I am terrible at guessing ages, and even worse from other era's as people tended to look older sooner because of the hard lives they lived and lack of information on nutrition, etc..

I wondered if that might be a wedding dress and the reason for the 'finery."

I too think it is Edwardian.

I don’t think you can have Harriet’s birth date right.  Probably more like 1836 according to census
Looks like she married Thomas Brind in 1857.

If you know when Harriet died, that may help you with dating the photo. She looks quite elderly in this photo.

She was actually born in 1836 and died in 1909. Sorry. I was looking at the wrong line in my documentation.  Her father was born in 1809. my mistake.

As has been suggested it's Edwardian.
The pigeon-breast bodice was a style from around 1903-08.
