Hi there

I have posted a photo of my grandfather who I know was in the Dad's Army during WW2. My grandfather is the one with an arm band - on the right. Does anyone know what this means and why he is wearing the armband? Also does anyone know where this photo was taken? He lived in London -  Isleworth during WW2.

Are there any records on the Dad's Army? If not - are there any good accounts of what they did in West London during this time?

Winter 1940 Local Defence Volunteers which had become the Home Guard in Jul 1940 .  Apparently they made a lot of LDV armbands so they remained in use after HG re-titling for a time.

One is in a civilian suit and 2 have LDV armbands.

By 1941 they were HG and the LDV armband was obsolete.

The badges are obscured but the Hounslow HG were badged to the Middlesex Regiment.

They were the 2nd HG Bn and are in this film
