Why not  set a reminder on your pc/ tablet/phone to alert you to cancel a couple of days prior to the free trial ending.

Rather worried about giving my financial details, as I'm not aiming to stay on FindMyPast and there's only a short free trial time (and I'm a bit forgetful).
I don't think you have to give any financial details to create an account to use this free offer on the 1939 Register only. You do NOT have to click on (Start free trial) at the top right of the page which is for the whole site, and always available.

By the way, previous FindMyPast freebies have closed at 10am on the stated end day, not 1 minute to midnight as with other sites. This may have changed, but don't rely on having all day on 8th.
Researching Penge, Anerley, (including the Crystal Palace) and neighbouring parts of Beckenham, currently in London (Bromley), formerly Surrey and/or Kent.

Also one of Alfred Frank Hawker who may have been in the RFC at the end of WW1.

Read this one correctly :-)
There is an Airman's service record for Alfred Frank HAWKER on FindMyPast he attested in 1918 and contains info about his wife and children which may help you to identify if its the right man.
A note says he enlisted in Class E Reserve in 1938

I think your best bet is to get the record  and ask questions on the WW2 forum as I don't know if he would have served in WW2 or not - though his civil occupation would likely have been of use to the RAF

Slap my wrists - I saw that in the listing but decided he was maybe too old for early recruitment.

There was a mention of an Alfred Frank Hawker from Birmingham in the Devon newspapers in 1937
https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-north-devon-journal-herald-afhawker/171816941/

I looked his address up in the Warwickshire Electoral registers for 1937 and that name is listed - with a Doris Hawker - which is the name on the RAF service record for the airman's wife.

Just posting in case this service record pans out when you get it. I always like little snippets - especially when they have been naughty!

Oooooh that's intriguing! It's the correct person too. Now unfortunately I no longer have a sub to FindMyPast. He was a lovely and kind uncle to my husband.

The photo of Alfred Frank Hawker has a RAF Eagle on the shoulder.
He is wearing a forage cap and pre WW2 tunic.
The photo is dated between 1936 and 1940.
The RAF forage cap was introduced in 1936.
RAF WW2 battledress was introduced in 1940.
