Help with reading a French Profession please
« on: Wednesday 02 April 25 07:43 BST (UK) »
Good morning
I'd be grateful if anyone could help out by letting me know what the profession is on this French Acte de mariage.
Many thanks in advance

Hi,
I am not sure because it would be easier to compare with some other " actes" of the register but it could be " cardier de son métier" which means " his job being cardier". A cardier is someone who unravels or combs fiber textiles.

Can you give the place and the date ?

Thank you for your reply.
It's the marriage of Mathias Wachter and Catherine Müller.
The link to the acte is here:
https://archives.bas-rhin.fr/detail-document/ETAT-CIVIL-C189-P1-R134791#visio/page:ETAT-CIVIL-C189-P1-R134791-652278
In the acte de naissance of the couple's daughter in 1812 Mathias's profession is given as journalier, which doesn't pose a problem.
