Prison Record Assistance 1916
« on: Sunday 30 March 25 17:27 BST (UK) »
Hi all. I am working on a personal project of a relative that was imprisoned as part of the deportations from Dublin in 1916. His name was Richard McCormick (sometimes spelled McCormack) and deported from Richmond Barracks, Dublin on April 30th and lodged at Knutsford Detention Centre on May 1st. Thereafter, he was transferred to Frongach in Wales, and eventually to Reading Gaol prior to amnesty.

What I seek are the dates of residence in each of these prisons, and any associated records for my research. Most of all, and this would dramatically assist me further, would be if any kind of prison photo exists, a mugshot so to speak. This would allow me identify him in other photographs where there is high certainty he is present.

Appreciate your time to read my request.

Berkshire Archives certainly have records of  Reading Gaol including photos of prisoners.

Thank you for the response. There does not seem to be an archive available online - it is unclear to me what kind of records were kept or if they have been located elsewhere in the meantime.

I had a look at Cheshire Archives catalogue re Knutsford Detention Centre but drew a blank.

This won' take your search forward as laid out in your opening post but may deliver something of interest re their incarceration

Welsh newspapers  https://newspapers.library.wales/

Pop frongoch in Search and restrict year to 1916 - returns 152 hits. On left of screen pop irishinto "Search within these results" - returns 12 hits. Click on para title to view item.
