John Turner
« on: Wednesday 26 March 25 05:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I'm stuck on John Turner, a shoemaker who died in Grong Grong NSW in 1876. His death certificate and marriage certificate provide the following information:
Born: London 1929
Father: John Turner whose occupation was: Sawyer
Mother: Mary Eeke
Interestingly, he married Ester Herbert, whose line I have followed to Catherine Blount who was sister to Elizabeth (Bessie) Blount - King Henry VIII's lover and mother to his only acknowledged illegitimate child.
Help.
Jim

There is a marriage record which may be John's parents:
Mary Eke & John Turner (1821, East Dereham)

Edit:
Familysearch Family Tree for them:
Here
- Kiernan from County Meath
- Kelly from County Kildare
- Donnelly from County Tyrone
- McKenna from County Tyrone/Moghanan

When did your John arrive in Australia?  Ie when is he last on a census in England?  Did he come alone or with other family?
Can you please write out the information on the marriage & death certs exactly as it is. No interpretations. Just as it is.

Can see the Eke/Turner marriage posted. Both were widowed. So Mary Eke not born Eke.

Its interesting as bapts East Dereham, Mother MARY Eke;

ELIZABETH 29 Jan 1811, birth 27 Jan 1811. Reputed Father John ANDREWS; Mother a widow
JANE 14 Mar 1819, birth 3 Dec 1818
MARY ANNE 23 Dec 1820, birth 4 Dec 1820

Also a burial DAVID Eke 11 Dec 1808 age 23, A Married Man. Stated As David EKE Junr.

David EKE married Mary BLADE  20 Oct 1806, bachelor/spinster

They had children;
JAMES bapt 10 Mar 1807
MARY ANN bapt 15 Jul 1808 (cant see burial for her)

So just a possible for Mary Turner/Eke

Trish :)

EDIT looks possible as a Mary BLADE was bapt 31 Mar 1785 to CHRISTOPHER/JANE

So would make her 44 if she had a Son John c 1829

Hi all

Thank you so much for clarifying the Mary Eke situation. Any chance of something on John Turner who was recorded as a widower when he married Mary Eke.
