Evening everyone.
My 5th Great Grandfather, William Stamper was married in 1779 to Ann Sandiman at Norton. And I've seen a lot of different trees (online and published) with a lot of variation. Trying to work out the facts is proving a bit more difficult than I thought. Wondering if someone who has a bit more knowledge of the area would be able to nudge me in the right direction.
The marriage is correct, but looking for Williams baptism gives a choice of 1748, in New Malton or 1767 at Norton. Although he could have been baptised later in life, it does seem a bit unlikely. If is was the first one in 1748, he would have been 31. His son John, my 4th Great Grandfather was baptised in 1780 at Norton. And it looks like John was the first child.
Other children seem to be:
Robert, 1785
Thomas, 1790
Thomas, 1792
Richard, 1794
Whats worrying me is, when Richard was born, William would have been at least 46. Not saying he was a late starter, but I thought he might have been married before. The banns book for 1779 just says "No impediment alledged". Also, does not give condition.
There is a marriage for 1765 at Norton for a William to Elizabeth Wilson, but this in so many trees is attributed to his father also called William.
Please can someone help me as its driving me around the bend.
Thank you.
David.
