Cause of death: unknown.
« on: Saturday 22 March 25 21:29 GMT (UK) »
This is the first time I've seen "Unknown. No medical attendant" given in the cause of death box on a certificate.

Other sudden deaths I've seen have always been investigated by the coroner.

This is on the death certificate of a 12 year girl and the informant was an uncle who was "in attendance" at the death.

I haven't been able to find any newspaper reports relating to the case.

Sometimes finding things out just raises more questions!

A Medical Certificate stating cause of death wasn't required until 1874.

In 1926, an Act of Parliament made it unlawful to dispose of a dead body before a registrar's certificate or a coroner's order had been issued.

When was your death?

Jane's death was in 1868.

I have other death certificates from around that time and there has always been a cause of death stated.
