I must admit JF, in all the years that you have been restoring, you have always offered pure and honest versions of the originals and I admire you for that. I too prefer historical photos to be true to the era that they were taken.
In years to come the next generation will be in danger of never having any historical, paper photos of their Ancestors, they will be plastic Doppelgangers. Not only that, but the art of photo restoration will be lost forever. I rarely do the photos now, as before, I would often spend three or four hours a day working on a damaged photo is no longer worthwhile

Perhaps my time/ type of restore has gone. Do not notice starting handles on cars returning very quickly. I do only the odd one now as the "new experts" make mine look rubbish. Perhaps time to try something new. Hand knitting perhaps

In fact, I feel appreciation and gratitude to roots chat web site, which gave me the opportunity to train and develop in restoration and colorization of old photos. I always try to offer my best efforts to the site’s visitors, and I do not seek to compare or compete with anyone. Every amateur has his own style in practicing his hobby. Many museums now use modern technologies in processing, restoring and enlarging old photos. Restoring Victorian and classical clothes and hairstyles will remain so, but with clarity and precision. I hope that I have not unintentionally caused embarrassment to anyone... You are all great masters in restoration, and I have learned a lot from you. All my love and appreciation to you.

To stress although I do think that Rani’s work to restore photos that I’ve seen on RC is remarkable, this is not meant to be negative criticism of the other fantastic work by the various photo restoration experts who put in so much of their time to contribute.

That is one reason why RC is so wonderful, with such skilled and creative people taking part who are passionate about the subject. I’ve found all the restorations I’ve seen a delight including those of my own family. Each time I’ve seen the various versions I’ve thought ‘wonder which one the late person themselves, or family and friends, would they have liked?! Suspect there would have been some surprises!
