I'm investigating the HAMBLY family from Lansallos in Cornwall. My GG grandmother, Mary Jane Hambly was born there in 1825. The situation is a little complicated in that there were a few other Hamblys knocking around at that time and I would appreciate some help in knowing I am on the right track. Mary Jane Hambly has featured in another thread following her movements in Devonport later on but it is her family back in Cornwall that I am trying to get a better understanding of.
The first challenge is fundamental - I'm trying to get the right parents... There is a William and Jane Hambly in Lansallos who have a daughter Rebecca in 1819. Then a William and Jenifird Hambly who have a son William in 1823, a daughter Mary Jane in 1825. Later a William and Jane Hambly who have three children Elizabeth 1829, Susannah 1832 and John 1835. I'm hoping they are all the same family but it's hard to be certain...
There was a William Hambly b1895 who married Jane Galsworthy b1893 in the neighbouring Duloe parish in 1815. A daughter Jane was born in that parish in 1816. There were no further entries for William and Jane Hambly in that parish. There were other Hamblys around to sow confusion mind you...
In the 1841 census, William and Jane Hambly were home with Susannah and John. That was not too helpful. Looking around the area, I found a Rebecca (20) Mary Hambly (15) working on a farm in St Germans (run by two Palmers). I've assumed that these are connected to the family I am looking at. Elsewhere in 1841, there is another farm (also run by younger Palmer - possibly a son?) a neighbouring parish with an Elizabeth Hambly aged 10. Of note there is a chap called William Stephens on that entry at the farm...
Jumping ahead to 1851 around the St Germans area, there is a William Stephens with a wife Rebecca from Lansallos who I suspect is from the Hambly family I am looking at. They have two children (6,4). I have not been able to find a marriage for William and Rebecca - probably between 1841 and 1845... There is also a Jane Hambly from Lansallos on the same entry which really does suggest it is the Rebecca and Jane I am looking for.
Unfortunately, I have not had much tracking them down after that... I'm wondering if this all sounds plausible or I am falling into a convenient trap set by coincidence. I feel that if I could find the marriage between Rebecca and William that might help to confirm a few details.
Thank you in advance for any guidance.
