Sasines - Lanarkshire

Hi, thanks to a member of this forum, I have digitised copies of 13-15 sasines relating to my Scottish ancestors. So now I have great copies but still have no idea how to translate them.
I am working through a free Open University course on Paleography (the study of ancient or historical handwriting) which I am hoping will help me.
However, I wondered whether, like a Will, a sasine might have a basic format to it eg Date, (someone) gave (someone) a piece of land (somewhere) and perhaps what it was worth and who it was witnessed by etc but this is a pure guess. Does anyone know? I have read all online info on Scotland's People etc but can't find an answer to this question. I was hoping if there was such a format, once I have managed to translate one from Secretary Hand, the others will follow more easily. Wishful thinking?.

I transcribed or took the salient information from many many sasines in a past role, from the 18th century onwards. Yes, there was a format followed but this may vary between writers [solicitors], year and location. I don't recall ever having seen an amount of money apart from feu duty payable.

You should post one of your sasines here in sections and the elves will transcribe for you and translate the Latin.

Larger images would help - try to post the largest image that rootschat allow, resize your images if necessary. I will look at your postings later. Certainly not in Latin! And not in secretary hand. Look in your course to get familiar with how years in numerals are written.

General notes: any land transferred [if it is land - could be fishings] in any sasine is after the 'All and Haill/Whole' part, there may be more than one subjects [usually signified by roman numerals I, II etc.]. For land some earth used to be transferred, for fishings water etc.; sometimes the land is described as 'part of the Lands of xxx' where xxx is the estate of the feudal superior; sometimes the areas and/or dimensions and/or neighbours are mentioned.

Others obviously have different handwriting but as you say I am wrong about what hand it is written in.

I will take your advice and look at dates etc in my course.
