Charles Beattie EWEN
« on: Tuesday 18 March 25 09:28 GMT (UK) »
CHARLES BEATTIE EWEN died on 14 June 1921 after serving with the Gordon Highlanders. Aged 26, he was the son of William and Maggie Jane Ewen (nee Cowie).
Charles was born on 14 July 1895 in the Parish of Fyvie. He died in hospital in Glasgow but his pension records give his home address as Lonach Cottage , Dunecht. (Was that on the Dunecht Estate)?
It appears that Charles' mother died in 1918. His pension card carries the names of a Mrs Helen Kindness and a Mrs Elizabeth Farquahar, described as "guardians".
Charles Beattie Ewen is entitled to War Grave designation but this requires proof of burial.

Can anyone tell me where this Forgotten Soldier is buried?

It looks like Charles Beattie Ewen is buried in Dalnottar Cemetery in Clydebank, in lair H76, which was purchased by his brother, William Cowie Ewen, who was a policeman in Balloch (at least, his address is given as Police Station, Balloch, so presume that was his job).

Images of the burial register are available on Ancestry, but if you're unable to view those, West Dunbartonshire Council should be able to confirm the details.

Great find ruthhelen.

I have taken a look at the Ancestry burial register and not sure how it would download as there doesn't appear to be a heading on the register. Would this be acceptable to the CWGC? Not sure.

If it were me I would contact the Council as below -

email  -  bereavementservices@westdunbarton.gov.uk
Telephone - 01389 876306/01389875667
Or write to - Burial & Cremation Administration Office,
                   Crematorium and Lodge House,
                   Mountblow Road,
                   Clydebank,
                   G81 4SL

Most councils are very helpful so good luck and please keep us updated on your progress.

My grateful thanks to both of you. And West Dunbartonshire provided the necessary documentary evidence within half an hour!
Great result all round.
