Missing two marriages
« on: Sunday 16 March 25 21:29 GMT (UK) »
Im trying to find the marriage records:

John William Heal to Vera Frances

Elsie Dorothy Heal to George Carter

John and Elsie were married in 1918 until 1933. Elsie’s maiden name Rowe. She was disappeared from their young children’s lives in 1933, no one know what happened to her. Until i found Elsie’s death in 1980 in Worthing. As Elsie Carter. Elsie noted on 1939 census as Elsie Carter.

John and Vera lived seperately on 1939 census, John worked in prison whilst Vera lived with her grandparents. Vera remarried after John’s death in 1950

I wonder as i cant find the maariage records, unless i overlooked, i wonder that John and Elsie have never been divorced. Supposed john and police thinks shes dead so John remarried to Vera.

What i never know!  Please do your magic thank you

Both John and Elsie are with their new "spouses" on electoral registers by the late 1930s, so any divorce and remarriage would be in that time frame.

Was Vera connected to or employed by the Heals? She seems to be living with them in the early 1930s before Elsie departs

Also not sure why you say she's with grandparents in 1939 - if I have the right person she's with two other couples of a similar age to her in Coulsden and Purley (probably living over the shop that one of them runs?)

Vera Frances, with grandparents in 1921, not 1939, my mistake.   Not sure who are the Walkers in 1939 though.

Vera’s maiden name Wykes.  Born in 1905.

If helps

Elsie noted on 1939 census as Elsie Carter.

The 1939 National Register was not a census. ;)

A census is a snapshot of who was where on a specified night.
The 1939 Register, originally used for ID cards, was then used and updated by the NHS until the 1990s. Changes were noted (e.g. surnames) during that time.

By the way I think John is a prisoner, not working in prison, in 1939

The purpose of the 1939 register was different from the purpose of a census, but it is a snapshot of who was where on a specific day, September 29, 1939. But only the civilian population.

By the way I think John is a prisoner, not working in prison, in 1939

Sentenced to 9 months on 11 May 1939 for embezzlement. He had an estate agent's business. Vera was a partner in the company

Another newspaper mentions Kenneth Mackman Wykes as another partner
