1841 asylum census

Well it seems that his name actually was Richard Pate Manning, not Richard Peter Manning.
His mother was a Pate.

Little was said and within moments one lay dead and the other would spend the rest of his life in an asylum.

Do we know he was admitted to an asylum right afterwards? It could have been some time later. Albeit he seems to have spent many years at Walton Lodge.
The death date in that article is wrong, 7 January seems to be the date of his burial at Wrexham

I found the baptism of Richard Pate Manning in 1771 Wrexham,  father Richard Manning apothecary. No mother named. There's nothing more on his father in Wrexham.
There's a Richard Manning apothecary buried in Wrexham in 1763 who may be the grandfatherof  Richard Pate.
In 1720 Mary daughter of Richard Manning apothecary was baptised in Wrexham so they were around Wrexham

So Thomas Jones was born c 1738. What was his connection to Richard Pate Manning.
How many wives did he have. 3?
The Boydell family were landowners around Wrexham.



 The following inscription is in the chancel of Wrex ham Church:—" In memory of Thomas Jones, of Wrexham, in the county of Denbigh, who departed this life 26th of October, ann. dom., 1799, setat 61. Also of Jane.his first wife, who died 1st October, ann. dom., 1768, aetat 26. Ann, his second wife, who died 27th June, ann. dom., 1796, aetat 52. Ha ry, his second daughter by his last wife, who died an infant. Elizabeth, his third daughter, who .died September, ann. dom., 1796, aetat 17. Ann, his eldest daughter, wife of James Boydell, Esq., who died without issue, 23rd August, ann. dom., 1799, aetat 22; and of Richard, his second son by his last wife. who died un- married in the Island of Jamaica. 12th April, ann. dom., 1803, aetat 28. Is placed (a mournful record of the fragility of human life) this imperfect tribute of filial piety and fraternal affection."

The newspaper article linked to states that Dr Manning had been Capt Jones' ward, so maybe it was the same person if he was connected to the making of the will

In 1841 Richard Pate  Manning is in the  Walton Lodge Licensed Madhouse. 
The proprietor is a Richard Squires, his wife Mary and 5 children aged between 5 and 1.
There are about 25 men who have  mostly well to do occupations and 8 ladies.
By 1851 the Squires have left.  it seems that the couple are living in separate households, Richard is with his mother and now working as a coal merchant in West Derby.  Richard died in 1854.

By 1851 John P Litchfield b 1806 Chelsea is there, about 30 inmates with only initials,  9 servants. Again they have good occupations, or did have.  John P Litchfield is married but his wife isn`t there,
a newspaper article from 1853   about Lunacy states he has retired.

 This may be him . New York Newspapers.

 Thanks . A nice find .I should have known our Local historian had already found this . if you scroll to page 275 there is Cornish Hall. My ancestor Thomas Wilcoxon was born there  1803 and the family had been there as farmers from about 1780. They would have known all about this .
I was lucky enough to visit Cornish a few years ago,  I know it`s nothing to do with this thread but thought I`d add it anyway
