the John Rogers c1800 born at Hatfield Heath, Essex seems to be eliminated as there is a John Rogers c1800, born Essex married to an Ann with 2x children living at Hatfield Broad Oak, Essex in the 1841 census (2,3 miles away).

Would the marriage entry at St. Mary's, Bocking, Essex (22-11-1818) mention the parents names?
Are these church records on line somewhere?

I didn't realise that Family search had actual scans of parish Church entries, Fantastic! thanks for that.
Unfortunately John's parents are not mentioned, although maybe one of the witnesses may be related in some way? (Abram Carter and Bary Harris?)

Also many thanks for the death reg ref's.

dear all,
On studying the marriage entry further I see that the witness 'Abram Carter' appears on 4 of the 6 marriage entries, so I must assume he is some kind of payed witness? or spends a lot of time in the church clutching a quill  ::)
Looking at the second witness, its is definitely a sirname of 'Harris' and the transcription suggests 'Barry' with one 'r' but could also be 'Benny' with one 'r'.
I am wondering if it may be 'Benj :' short for Benjamin? This being based on 'Abraham' being shortened to 'Ab:m' or am I looking too deeply?

Looks like a dot over a j to me so I would say it refers to the name Benjamin.

I agree about the dot indicating a “j”. There also seems to be a colon there, and perusing the Wikipedia entry for ‘colon’ I learn that in Early Modern English (ie up to late 17th century) this was used to signify an abbreviation – perhaps this useage lingered longer?
