Harness Maker apprentice Dublin
« on: Monday 10 March 25 20:59 GMT (UK) »
Hello Rootschatters,

I am hoping someone can help or advise me please.
My grandfather was a harness maker in Dublin. He was born in 1870, and I am trying to find out where he would have learned his trade, or where he would have served his apprenticeship.
I have tried searching on line but with no success.
Has anyone got any ideas where i would find apprenticeship records for this trade in Dublin?

Thank you in advance.
Nora

Perhaps his father and grandfather were in the same trade and he was taught by them.

Can you go further back in his history to find out?

Sorry I don’t know where any apprenticeship records would be found.
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

What is his name please?

Have you looked in the 1901/1911 census records?

Hello Shanreagh,
Thank you for your reply.

My grandfathers name was Patrick Mitchell. He was a Unitarian, but became Catholic to marry my grandmother.

I have his marriage record, and also his army records. He is on the census too.

I have no idea where to search for his birth records except I know he was born in Dublin in 1870.

Kindest regards,

Nora Lush

Hello Shanreagh,

Thank you for your reply.

His fathers name was Peter Mitchell, but on his marriage certificate where it asks for his fathers occupation it just has a line drawn through that part.
I am not sure if that means his father is deceased or a pensioner with no occupation.

Kindest regards,
Nora
